A day in the life of this role:ย 

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant in Training assists providers by performing a variety of patient flow, supply and environmental duties under the direct supervision of a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Nurse or Clinical Provider, to support the health care team in the delivery of high-quality patient care.ย 

**This is a Full-Time, Year Round position with Paid Training**

  • Training will take place in Harwich,ย 
  • Upon completion of training, the role will transition to a full-time, in-person position in Provincetown, MA

We are seeking individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic, and quick learners, with a strong interest in growing within a healthcare setting.

Summary of duties:ย 

  • Review electronic medical record (EMR) prior to patientโ€™s scheduled appointmentย 
  • Ensure all lab results, consultation reports, and hospital discharge records are available to the provider in the chart and note dates of completion of the most recent primary care screening testsย ย 
  • Properly identify patients in accordance with OCHS policy and procedures and escort him/her/them to the exam room; review and record reasons for visit, current medications, and update history as noted in adult health history form/interim history form as well as conduct a thorough patient interview.ย ย 
  • Provide patients with forms to be completed prior to provider/nurse visit (learning needs assessment, depression screen, consent forms as necessary)ย ย 
  • Accurately perform and record patientโ€™s vital signs, height, weight and oxygen saturation as appropriateย ย 
  • Assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients in undressing, dressing, and getting on and off the examination tableย 
  • Deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the patientโ€™s age, physical ability and intellectual developmentย 
  • Conduct hearing, vision, breathing and EKG testing; record results in EMR; report abnormal findings to providerย 
  • Recognize and report to provider/nurse abnormal vital signs; recognize potential emergency situations, seek assistance and intervene appropriately. Notify the appropriate person in the event of a medical emergency and assist in rendering emergency care as directed by provider or nurseย 
  • Notify provider of patientโ€™s arrival and readiness for his/her examinationย 
  • Assist providers and nurses with patient visits, including (but not limited to) diagnostic studies and treatments, preparing labels, and printing labsย 
  • Operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, and handing instruments to providerย 
  • Label, collect, and prepare lab specimens; handle all specimens using Universal Precautions and in accordance with OCHSโ€™s policy and proceduresย 
  • Deliver all lab specimens to lab as indicatedย 
  • Assist providers with patient examinations and procedures, including (but not limited to) minor surgical procedures, GYN exams, diagnostic studies, and treatmentsย 
  • Perform CLIA waived point of care testingย 
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and all training seminars (OSHA and others)ย 
  • Clean, wrap and sterilize instruments according to policy and procedure for reprocessing of instrumentย 
  • Assist Charge Nurse with inventory and ordering all medical suppliesย ย 
  • Keep exam rooms stocked, clean, and orderly in accord with infection control and HIPP A standards; monitor rooms for patient safetyย 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all timesย 
  • Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor at all times with patients and coworkersย 
  • Exercise care in the operation and use of equipment, and perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continued functioningย 
  • Maintain work area in a clean, safe, and organized mannerย 
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of timeย 
  • Able to lift small loads and assist with patient mobility (as needed)ย 
  • Ability to travel between OCHS sites, as neededย 
  • Other related duties and projects as assignedย
