Program Overview
The Tech Interactive is seeking a creative, motivated, and digitally savvy intern to help transform hands-on STEM experiences into engaging social media content. This internship provides college students with an opportunity to apply storytelling, digital media, marketing, and communication skills in a museum and non-profit educational environment.
As a Social Media Content Creation Intern, you will develop short-form video content that highlights science, technology, engineering, and design experiences for diverse audiences across social media platforms. Working alongside marketing, education, and content professionals, you will gain hands-on experience in content strategy, video production, audience engagement, and science communication.
Learning Outcomes
Through this internship, students will:
  • Develop professional skills in digital content creation and social media marketing
  • Apply storytelling techniques to communicate STEM concepts to public audiences
  • Gain experience in video production, editing, and content strategy
  • Learn how audience insights and platform analytics inform content decisions
  • Build a professional portfolio of published content and creative projects
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects in a professional STEM nonprofit environment

Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation & Production
  • Produce content that aligns with organizational brand standards and audience engagement goals
  • Create and edit short-form videos for TikTok (approximately 3-5 pieces per week)
  • Capture footage of exhibits, engineering challenges, design activities, educational programs, and museum experiences
  • Assist with on-camera presentations, interviews, demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes storytelling

STEM Storytelling & Science Communication
  • Translate STEM concepts into accessible, engaging, and audience-friendly content
  • Highlight real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and design
  • Collaborate with educators and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and educational value
  • Conduct research to verify STEM-related content and maintain factual integrity

Social Media Strategy & Audience Engagement
  • Monitor social media trends, platform best practices, and emerging content formats to inform content strategy
  • Develop engaging captions, creative concepts, and recurring content series that increase audience reach and engagement
  • Support community management by interacting with audiences and fostering meaningful online engagement
  • Analyze content performance metrics, share insights and recommendations, and participate in team meetings and professional development activities

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current undergraduate in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, Journalism, Digital Media, Film, Education, STEM-related fields, or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in social media, digital storytelling, and content creation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Curiosity about science, technology, engineering, design, or informal learning

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience creating content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with video editing software such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent tools
  • Experience with photography, videography, or visual storytelling
  • Interest in making STEM education accessible, engaging, and inclusive

Working Conditions and Schedule
  • Internship will be 10 weeks in the Fall for 15 - 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling based on operational need/availability; the internship will take place from September 16 - December 4, 2026.
  • This is an on-site role with the possibility of flexibility for working some days at an alternative work location. Flexibility will vary depending on the needs of the job.
  • Working occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Frequently moves objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis in the order applications are received. Priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by July 1, 2026. Applications received after this date may not receive full consideration, though the position will remain open until filled.
