To ensure that his/her areas of responsibility on the ship, including; maintenance, engineering, ballasting, oil handling operations, hull and equipment are in accordance with the Transport Canada Regulations, codes of practice or standards that may be applicable to the operation of the vessel; this duties and responsibilities description defines the expectations of CSL with respect to the Second Engineer.  
 
  • Supervision and efficient and economical operation of the Engineering Department. As such he has authority over the Junior Engineers and unlicensed department personnel and is responsible for their training he/she may utilise the services of the vessel Safety Representative in the delivery of training
  • Upkeep, maintenance and cleanliness of all machinery spaces
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the main propulsion machinery including fuel and lubricant piping and pumping systems, purifiers, steering gear, control systems, hydraulic systems, C.P.P. system, the oily water separator and the incinerator
  • Maintenance and upkeep of mooring winches, windlass and cargo hatch cover controls and mechanism

  • Fully certified in accordance to the requirements of the type, trading limitations and flag state requirements of the vessel.
  • 5 years of experience as a Second Engineer 
  • Eligible to work in Canada
