Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer (Experienced or Senior)

Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join our 787 Mechanical Systems (Environmental Control Systems, Hydraulics, Flight Deck Design, & Flight Controls) Design Engineering team located in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer will support the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design of one of the four listed systems (ECS, Hydraulics, Flight Deck, Flight Controls) for the 787 Program in a sustaining production environment. Project examples include addressing design obsolescence, developing product improvements, supporting production build and test, supporting new customer introduction, and supporting the in-service fleet.

Position Responsibilities:

Experienced (Level 3)

  • Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design.

  • Supports the development, maintenance, or modification of system, component, and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups.

  • Performs and documents analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.

  • Contributes to supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals.

  • Supports system components' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation.

  • Trains others.

  • Works under general direction.

Senior (Level 4)

  • Lead and provide technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid systems to establish the system design.

  • Lead activities to validate and verify mechanical and fluid systems requirements.

  • Lead the development, maintenance, or modification of system components' designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation.

  • Lead technical meetings and planning efforts, presenting technical information to wide range of audiences.

  • Manage supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals.

  • Prioritize, delegate, and track performance and documentation of analyses of fluid systems/mechanisms/landing gear/ordnance components and systems selecting appropriate methods to validate or assess the design.

  • Support proposal preparation and new business development efforts.

  • Train and coach others.

  • Work under minimal direction.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Material Sciences

  • Level 3: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3+ years of experience with Mechanical Systems

  • 3+ years of professional experience working in an engineering field.

  • 3+ years of experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools

  • 3+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 10%

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 3/4 - Experience mentoring and developing others

  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace related role

  • 5+ years of experience working in CATIA V5 & ENOVIA toolsets

  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, procedures, and specifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical system, hydraulic fluid system, flight controls, flight deck and/or environmental controls systems engineering roles

  • 5+ years of demonstrated project management skills
