Job description

LightArt is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Industrial Designer for an immediate opening as a Design Engineer I to join our Research & Development team. We are currently looking to expand our team with a hands-on, dynamic individual to develop innovative solutions to complex lighting fixture design problems. The candidate will assist on projects through all stages of the development process from concept through product launch. The Candidate should possess a proactive approach to design and leverage manufacturing knowledge to complete tasks independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be proficient in Solidworks, basic knowledge of Revit, Sketchup, InDesign, Rhino, Grasshopper, or AutoCAD and experience in lighting and electrical systems a plus. Our ideal candidate is passionate about their work and can communicate cross-functionally with internal teams in different geographical locations. This position reports to the Director of Research and Development.
The successful candidates as members of Engineering department will interface with operations, project management, sales, purchasing, and the production staff to ensure that the fixture development projects meet design and customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Ownership of complete project deliverables, including design documentation, production documentation, sales tools, cost model, etc.
  • Support product manufacturing with training, work instructions, jigs/fixtures, and samples as the project stakeholder.
  • Detail oriented, self-organized, self-motivated, self-directed, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development
  • Follow design methodologies and documentation procedures
  • Interact with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors.
  • Assist the team with any process improvement activities and related research
  • Conduct tests and works with 3rd party testing to get the fixtures CSA/UL listed. Responsible for Quality Control of the lighting fixtures

Requirements
  • S. in mechanical engineering, Industrial Design or another relevant field from an accredited program
  • 3+ years of experience in design development, preferably within the solid-state lighting industry
  • Expert user of SolidWorks with experience in PDM file management
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of manufacturing methods relating to part design for injection molding, CNC, casting, extrusion, sheet metal processing, and metal welding.
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the ability to interpret and apply GD&T
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in written form, and through sketches and engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated success in ensuring cost reduction targets are achieved as outlined in the project scope
  • Proficiency with shop tools, CNC, 3D printing equipment
  • Must be detail oriented and strong in written and verbal communication requirements
