Job description

SUMMARY: The Mechanical Maintenance position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs plant mechanical equipment and systems, including but not limited to rolling mills, furnaces, conveyors, machine tools, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and auxiliary equipment. This role performs precision alignment, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair work to support safe, reliable plant operations. These are union positions covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the United Steelworkers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Including but not limited to the following:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment (e.g., rolling mills, furnaces, conveyors, pumps, compressors, and other rotating equipment).
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and related components.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, and part replacement, in line with work orders and PM schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, and schematics to support equipment installation and repair.
  • Safely rig, move, and position equipment; operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and work collaboratively with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support safe, reliable operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • High School Diploma/GED required; formal industrial maintenance/millwright training preferred.
  • 3โ€“5 years of millwright/industrial mechanic experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment, including rotating machinery, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints and use standard hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices.
  • Experience with safe rigging and operating cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and various shifts; strong commitment to safety and working in a union environment.
  • Candidates are expected to provide their own hand tools up to a ยฝ-inch drive. The company will supply all larger and specialty tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Work is performed in an industrial setting with varying temperatures, loud noise and heavy activity.
