Mechanical Engineer Relocation information

What does a mechanical engineer relocation do?

A Mechanical Engineer Relocation role typically involves overseeing and executing the transfer of mechanical systems, equipment, or entire production lines from one location to another. This includes planning the move, ensuring safe disassembly and reassembly, coordinating logistics, and minimizing downtime. Mechanical engineers in relocation projects work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the move adheres to safety, quality, and timeline requirements. Their responsibilities may also include troubleshooting technical issues, updating documentation, and supporting the start-up of relocated equipment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a mechanical engineer relocation?

To thrive as a Mechanical Engineer Relocation, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, project management tools, and industry standards is essential, and certifications like PE (Professional Engineer) can be advantageous. Strong communication, adaptability, and cross-cultural collaboration skills make professionals stand out, especially when coordinating projects across different locations. These competencies ensure successful project execution, smooth adaptation to new environments, and effective collaboration during relocation assignments.

What challenges might a mechanical engineer face when relocating for a new position and how can they prepare?

Relocating for a Mechanical Engineer role often involves adapting to a new work culture, different project management practices, and sometimes unfamiliar regulatory standards. Engineers may also face logistical challenges such as finding housing and building a new social network. To prepare, it's helpful to research the company's relocation assistance, connect with future colleagues before the move, and familiarize yourself with local engineering codes and practices. Proactive communication with HR and taking advantage of onboarding resources can ease the transition and set you up for success.

The Design Engineer II in Warroad, MN for Ultimate Door R&D plays an important engineering role within the centralized R&D organization, supporting the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of Ultimate Door products. This role applies engineering principles, product knowledge, and analytical problem-solving to ensure strong alignment between product design intent, manufacturability, performance, quality, and the voice of the customer.

This job is located in Warroad, MN. If you're considering relocating to Warroad, you may be eligible for a relocation benefit package to assist with your move. Marvin offers an extensive relocation benefit package that includes the movement of your household goods, temporary housing, and much more - in addition to a relocation counselor to assist you throughout the entire journey.

Highlights of your role

Engineering Design & Production Support

  • Provide engineering design and production support for Ultimate Door products developed and supported in Warroad, but produced in Ripley TN.
  • Create, update, and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Develop and implement design changes using sound engineering judgment; write, execute, and track ECN and ECI tasks while ensuring changes are properly documented and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Support prototype builds, product testing, design verification, and validation activities for new and existing product designs.
  • Analyze production, field, and quality feedback to identify design improvements, documentation gaps, and opportunities to improve product robustness.

R&D Collaboration & Product Support

  • Serve as a key engineering contributor for product design, engineering prints, technical clarification, and issue resolution related to Ultimate Door products.
  • Understand and align engineering work with project strategies, product roadmaps, design standards, and development priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, product management, and cross-functional teams in Ripley TN to support effective product development, launch, and implementation.
  • Capture, evaluate, and communicate field issues, customer feedback, requests, and improvement opportunities to strengthen Ultimate Door product design.

Documentation & Feedback Loop

  • Document requests, issues, engineering decisions, test observations, and implemented changes with clear visual and written communication.
  • Capture images, measurements, data, and observations to support engineering analysis, root cause investigation, and solution development.
  • Report on outcomes after design or process changes are implemented, ensuring feedback is closed-loop and design learning is incorporated into future work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Ripley, TN production and quality teams to resolve design-related issues using structured engineering problem solving.
  • Communicate product design activity, technical recommendations, risks, and tradeoffs with cross-functional departments.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support implementation of engineering changes within manufacturing processes, quality systems, documentation systems, and product configuration controls.
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience applying engineering principles to product design, problem solving, testing, and manufacturing support.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing creation, preferably using Inventor, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, design for manufacturability, and engineering change control.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production environments, product validation, and quality systems.
  • Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to explain engineering concepts, risks, and recommendations across teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
