Required Skills3D modeling, surface design, complex assemblies3D modeling, sheet metal, detailed part design
CertificationsOften requires Catia certificationsSolidWorks certifications common

Mechanical Design Engineer Catia and Mechanical Design Engineer SolidWorks both focus on 3D modeling and product design but are used in different industries and projects. Catia is preferred for complex, large-scale engineering like aerospace, while SolidWorks is popular for consumer products and smaller mechanical parts. The choice depends on the industry and specific project requirements.

How does a mechanical design engineer using CATIA typically collaborate with other departments during the product development process?

Mechanical Design Engineers utilizing CATIA frequently work with multidisciplinary teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance departments. They share 3D models and technical drawings to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements. Effective communication and regular design reviews are essential, as feedback from other departments can lead to design adjustments or optimizations. This collaborative approach helps streamline the development process and ensures that final products meet functional, cost, and quality standards.

What does a mechanical design engineer using CATIA do?

A Mechanical Design Engineer who uses CATIA is responsible for designing, modeling, and analyzing mechanical components and systems using the CATIA software. Their work often involves creating detailed 3D models, producing technical drawings, and collaborating with other engineers to ensure that designs meet functional and manufacturing requirements. They play a key role in product development cycles in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, using CATIA’s advanced tools for simulation, analysis, and design optimization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mechanical design engineer specializing in CATIA?

To thrive as a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in CATIA, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in 3D modeling, and typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Expertise in CATIA software, familiarity with CAD/CAE tools, and knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems are essential, and certifications in CATIA can be highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams and deliver precise designs. These skills ensure the development of innovative, manufacturable, and reliable mechanical components, meeting both technical and project requirements.

Job description

At Heart Aerospace we develop the ES-30, a regional hybrid-electric airplane with a capacity of 30 passengers, an electric zero-emission range of 200 km and an extended hybrid range of 400 km. Heart is targeting type certification of the ES-30 by the end of the decade.

Your mission

As part of the Flight Mechanisms team, you will be responsible for design, development, validation, and eventually certification of components including primary and secondary flight control actuators, propulsion and landing gear components, and environmental control (ECS) components. You will work with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers across teams to build and fly complex systems.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited

  • The opportunity to exercise full ownership over the design, fabrication and test of novel flight components.
  • You will lead the design of crucial subcomponents including gears, bearings, seals.
  • Design, build and test components to environmental qualification standards such as DO-160G, MIL-STD-810, or similar.
  • Work will a cross-functional team developing electronic and software control systems.

(This position can be hired as a Mechanical Design Engineer or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer )
