How much do mechanical design analysis engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for mechanical design analysis engineer in the United States is $91,578.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $76,000.00 and $103,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in design and analysis methodologies, and typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), finite element analysis (FEA) tools, and relevant industry codes or certifications (like PE licensure) is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical findings. These competencies ensure the development of reliable, efficient products and effective resolution of design challenges.

How does a Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product development cycle?

Mechanical Design Analysis Engineers often work closely with product designers, manufacturing engineers, and quality assurance teams throughout the product development process. They provide critical analysis and simulation data to help refine designs, ensure manufacturability, and verify that products meet safety and performance standards. Regular meetings, design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving sessions are common, allowing for real-time feedback and iterative improvements. This collaborative environment ensures that the final product is optimized from both a design and engineering perspective.

What is the difference between Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectMechanical Design Analysis EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Primary FocusAnalyzing mechanical systems for performance, stress, and durabilityCreating and developing mechanical components and assemblies
Skills & CertificationsFEM, CAD, analytical tools, engineering degreesCAD, design software, engineering degrees
Work EnvironmentDesign validation labs, simulation software, R&D teamsDesign offices, manufacturing plants, prototyping labs
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, manufacturing, R&DProduct development, manufacturing, engineering firms

Both roles require engineering degrees and CAD skills, but the Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer specializes in evaluating and testing mechanical systems through analysis, while the Mechanical Design Engineer focuses on creating and developing new mechanical designs.

What does a Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer do?

A Mechanical Design Analysis Engineer is responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical components and systems to ensure they meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools to model and test designs under various conditions. Their work often involves collaborating with other engineers, reviewing technical drawings, and optimizing designs to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Additionally, they may be involved in prototype testing and troubleshooting to resolve any design issues before manufacturing.

Job description

Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer (Associate, Mid-Level)

Company:

The Boeing Company

The Boeing Company Integrated Vehicle Systems teamis looking to hire a Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer to join the Advanced Aeromechanical Control Effector Systems (AACES) Lab team in St Louis, MO.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Associate, and Mid-Level Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineers.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Associate, Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers. (add levels)

The selected mechanical systems design & analysis engineer will support the development and demonstration of advanced actuators and adaptive structures for flight control, aerodynamic reconfigurability, actuated wind tunnel models, non-pyrotechnic release mechanisms, utility actuation and space thermal control systems. These novel actuation and adaptive structure systems highly leverage smart materials including shape memory alloys. The selected candidate will regularly perform and support requirement-based engineering design cycles to design, fabricate and assemble mechanical and actuation systems for prototype bench, wind-tunnel and flight test demonstrations Most of this work will be performed in the AACES laboratory and therefore requires experience working in laboratory environments. Experience in rapid prototyping and the ability to plan and run experiments, acquire data and write reports are essential for this position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform and support requirement-based engineering design cycles to design, fabricate and assemble mechanical and actuation systems for prototype bench, wind-tunnel and flight test demonstrations
  • Laboratory operations including safety, maintenance, planning and running experiments, acquiring data and writing reports.
  • Coordinating with machine shops, other test labs and suppliers for fabrication and procurement of parts.
  • Assist in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 2+ years of experience in Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment and/or electronic test and troubleshooting
  • 2+ years of experience working with MATLAB and LabVIEW
  • 2+ years of experience working with Catia V5 or equivalent CAD/CAM software

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, i.e., Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace engineering with research experience
  • 2+ years of experience with smart materials, adaptive structures, aerodynamic testing, mechanical testing and/or material characterization is highly desirable, but not required
  • 2+ experience in actuation, data acquisition and controls engineering
  • General knowledge of other closely related cross functional engineer disciplines, including, controls, software and electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and control hardware including National Instruments, Microcontrollers and Raspberry Pi like devices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and leaders
