Job description

Job Purpose

To perform unskilled machine maintenance work and assist mechanics in performing manual work such as moving equipment, tools, and materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs manual tasks such as assisting mechanics in carrying machine parts and tools and materials to and from the job, lifts and holds parts, cleans up work areas, etc.
  2. Assist trade person with dismantling, overhauling, and assembling of equipment and machinery.
  3. Under direction of the trade’s person, cuts, grinds, and files parts of metal stock.
  4. Operate metal handsaw, use pedestal or drill press for rough work.
  5. Cleans and washes equipment and machinery.
  6. Scrapes paint, grease, and other accumulated material from equipment.
  7. Performs routine oiling and greasing of maintenance to shop equipment.
  8. May be assigned cleaning and sweep-up duties in the maintenance shop and yard.
  9. Additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Education and Experience: High school degree or equivalent. Experience with small engine and shipyard industry

  4. Frequently works with gloves and eye protection.
