Job Title: Acoustic Measurement TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role sits within an acoustic design and development team and focuses on prototyping, testing, and evaluating audio technologies to deliver outstanding user experiences in consumer electronic devices. You will perform detailed acoustic measurements, analyze results, and contribute to product development across multiple phases, using advanced audio lab tools and scripting to support data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities- Prototype and evaluate new audio technologies for consumer electronic devices to optimize user experience from an audio perspective.
- Collect, organize, and document acoustic measurement data on consumer electronic devices using specialized lab equipment and tools.
- Set up and operate audio hardware test systems, including HATS and measurement microphones, to perform repeatable and reliable tests.
- Use software such as Head Acoustics ACQUA, Audio Precision, and Listen Inc Soundcheck to run acoustic test sequences and analyze results.
- Operate and interpret measurements from laser displacement meters, such as Keyence and Polytec, to support acoustic and mechanical assessments.
- Apply knowledge of hearing science and psychoacoustics to interpret test results and provide insights into perceived audio quality.
- Perform critical listening evaluations to correlate objective measurements with subjective audio impressions.
- Develop, maintain, and run test scripts in tools such as MATLAB and Python to automate measurements and data processing.
- Collaborate closely with acoustic engineers and other team members throughout different phases of product development.
- Document test methods, procedures, and findings clearly to support engineering decisions and future reference.
- Troubleshoot test setups, equipment, and measurement anomalies to ensure accurate and consistent test outcomes.
Essential Skills- Hands-on experience of 3 or more years with audio hardware testing.
- Proficiency using audio lab tools such as HATS (Head and Torso Simulators) and measurement microphones.
- Experience with Head Acoustics ACQUA for acoustic measurements and analysis.
- Experience with Audio Precision systems for audio testing and characterization.
- Experience using Listen Inc Soundcheck for audio and acoustic measurements.
- Experience with laser displacement meters such as Keyence and Polytec for displacement and vibration measurements.
- Knowledge or strong interest in hearing science and psychoacoustics to support interpretation of test results.
- Experience in audio, acoustics, and critical listening to assess audio quality and correlate with measurement data.
- Experience with scripting tools such as MATLAB and Python to support test automation and data analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an acoustic design and development team environment.
- Interest in consumer electronics and connected products, including IoT devices.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and documentation.
- Ability to interpret complex measurement data and communicate findings clearly to engineering stakeholders.
- Experience with psychoacoustic evaluation methods is a strong plus.
- Comfort working with advanced lab equipment and following established test procedures.
Work EnvironmentThis role is fully onsite at a customer facility in Sunnyvale. You will work in a professional lab environment equipped with advanced audio measurement systems, including HATS, measurement microphones, Head Acoustics ACQUA, Audio Precision, Listen Inc Soundcheck, and laser displacement meters such as Keyence and Polytec. The work is hands-on and lab-focused, involving frequent setup and adjustment of test equipment, operation of measurement systems, and close collaboration with an experienced acoustic design and development team. The environment emphasizes precision, careful handling of sensitive equipment, and adherence to established test procedures.
