Job description

Hawaiian Telecom Building Maintenance Technician- Primary Duties and Responsibilities-

Work base/reporting location: Wailuku Maui

Coverage area: Maui County (Maui, Molokai & Lanai)

Work hours: 7:30am – 4:00pm

Lunch: 30 mins

Dress Attire: Pants & Steel toe shoes required. Company provided T-shirts

Cell phone: Employee provided with company reimbursement up to $50.00/month

  • The position is based on the island of Maui and provides related services on Molokai and Lanai.
  • Must be able to travel between Maui County for scheduled and emergency activities via air and ocean travel.
  • Must be available for on-call activity support for all facilities, supporting but not limited to HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire, life, and safety.
  • This position is considered to be essential and carries 1st responder duties in the event of natural disasters or other emergency related duties.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC, and all facility support equipment.
  • Perform equipment rounds, and service requests as directed and in accordance with the company CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Perform routine and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Become proficient with operating several building automation and SCADA systems.
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support vendors on preventive maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist site with emergency situations (fire alarms, power outages, environmental spills).
  • Comply with all company, safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Work 40 hours per week, and overnight/overtime as needed.
  • Respond to call-outs, after-hours (evenings/weekends/holiday).
  • Travel to various worksites on Maui and outer island as needed.
  • And other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications-

  • *Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a Team and Individual environment.
  • Proficient writing & communication skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to use Windows based computers.
  • Ability to read HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings.
  • EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification(s) or able to obtain in 6 months from start of employment.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Forklift license/certification.
  • Trade school degree or certificate in mechanical, electrical, or controls disciplines a plus.
  • Three years of building operating experience and data center experience preferred.

Physical Work Abilities and Requirements-

  • Walking frequently, throughout large facilities.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment.
  • Using ladders and man lifts, working from heights.
  • Working in confined and tight spaces where applicable.
