Job description

Position Summary
The Director of Mathematics provides strategic leadership for mathematics instruction across Choice Schools. This role partners with school leaders, instructional coaches, and the Academic Excellence Team to strengthen math instruction, implement high-quality curriculum and assessments, support professional learning, and improve student achievement. The Director also leads the organization's teacher mentoring program and works collaboratively to ensure consistent instructional excellence across all schools.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of K-12 mathematics programs and instructional practices.
  • Support schools in implementing standards-aligned mathematics curriculum, instructional resources, and assessments.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and instructional coaches to analyze student achievement data and identify instructional priorities.
  • Lead the selection, implementation, and evaluation of mathematics curriculum, interventions, and instructional materials.
  • Design and facilitate professional development focused on effective mathematics instruction, mathematical thinking, and research-based teaching practices.
  • Coach and support instructional leaders in strengthening classroom instruction and improving student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Excellence Team to strengthen Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for mathematics, including Tier II and Tier III interventions.
  • Support district and state assessment planning, implementation, and data analysis.
  • Oversee the organization's teacher mentoring program, ensuring new educators receive meaningful coaching and support.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with school leaders, instructional staff, and organizational departments.
  • Stay current on educational research, instructional best practices, and state initiatives related to mathematics education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
  • Valid Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in elementary or intermediate grades.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics instruction, curriculum development, assessment practices, and instructional coaching.
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data to drive instructional improvement.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and educational technology tools.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with teachers, school leaders, and district administrators.

Preferred
  • Experience leading professional development for educators.
  • Experience implementing MTSS and mathematics intervention programs.
  • Knowledge of early mathematics development, number sense, and learning progressions.
  • Experience supporting K-12 curriculum alignment.
  • Familiarity with Montessori education is preferred.
  • Experience working with multiple schools or school systems is a plus.

Work Environment
This position is primarily office and school-based, with regular travel to Choice Schools campuses. Standard office equipment is used regularly. The role requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Travel
Regular travel between Choice Schools locations is required. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal rate when a personal vehicle is used. Rental vehicles are available when appropriate.
