1 Position Available | Salary: $51,500-$83,000 | Full-Time
Our Vision
At Matchbook Learning, our vision is simple: every child is known, loved, and flourishing. We are a tuition-free public charter school proudly rooted in the Haughville neighborhood of Indianapolis, serving K-8 students at Wendell Phillips School 63. Our students come with high needs and extraordinary potential - and our staff shows up every day to meet both.
Half of our student population are Multilingual Learners. We serve students with a wide range of learning needs and we are proud to be in this community. You will be surrounded by a visible, supportive administration, a strong instructional coaching team, a dedicated MLL director, a large restorative team, and colleagues who put kids first.
About This Role
We are seeking a Middle School Math Teacher to join our departmentalized middle school team, assigned to one grade level - either 6th, 7th, or 8th grade - determined collaboratively based on the candidate's strengths and best fit. This is a content-focused role for someone who knows math - or is strong enough in math to be coached to teach it exceptionally well.
You do not need years of classroom experience. What you do need is solid math content knowledge, the ability to internalize provided curriculum, and a genuine willingness to be coached on delivery. Envision Math is our primary curriculum and you will be fully equipped to teach it. Our students gained 14 percentile points in math growth last year. You will help continue that trajectory.
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach math to one assigned middle school grade level (6th, 7th, or 8th - placement determined collaboratively based on best fit)
  • Deliver instruction using Envision Math curriculum with 100% fidelity - all materials are provided
  • Use Practice Buddy and MathXL data to inform daily and weekly instruction
  • Participate in weekly/bi-weekly data cycles - always know exactly where students are and what they need next
  • Implement SIOP-aligned strategies to support Multilingual Learners in all math instruction
  • Conduct student conferencing to build individual relationships and academic accountability
  • Maintain a structured, high-expectation classroom environment using PBIS systems
  • Actively participate in coaching cycles, walkthroughs, and professional development
  • Communicate proactively with families about student progress
  • Collaborate with flex teachers, instructional coaches, and school leadership to support student growth

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree - a background in math, science, engineering, or a quantitative field is strongly preferred
  • Strong math content knowledge at the middle school level
  • Valid Indiana teaching license OR enrolled in / willing to enroll in a state-approved transition-to- teaching program
  • Genuine growth mindset and openness to coaching and instructional feedback
  • Commitment to high expectations for all students, including students with high needs

Preferred:
  • Prior experience teaching or tutoring math at the middle or high school level
  • Familiarity with Envision Math, Practice Buddy, MathXL, or similar platforms
  • Experience working with Multilingual Learners or students with learning differences
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Professional Development & Support
Matchbook Learning invests deeply in its teachers. Our professional development is intentional, ongoing, and directly connected to what happens in classrooms every day. You will receive:
  • Weekly or bi-weekly data cycles - every teacher always knows exactly where students are and what comes next
  • Structured coaching and feedback from instructional coaches and a highly visible administration
  • SIOP-aligned training to effectively teach and support our large Multilingual Learner population
  • Robust bilingual support throughout the school - bilingual staff, resources, and systems to fully serve our Spanish-speaking students and families
  • Classroom management systems, PBIS support, and positive behavior reinforcement frameworks
  • Student conferencing structures - building authentic relationships with every student
  • Morning circle coaching and support (K-8) launching 2026-2027
  • PGP credits available for license renewal
  • Full support for educators enrolled in, or willing to enroll in, a state-approved transition-to-teaching program

You will not go it alone.
Our leadership and support structure includes:

  • Engagement & Events Coordinator
  • Instructional Coaches embedded throughout the school
  • Two MLL Academic Specialists providing push-in support for Multilingual Learners
  • Special Education Coordinator and a large, dedicated Special Education team
  • Instructional Assistant dedicated to producing and collecting materials for teachers

A Whole-Child School
All students K-8 at Matchbook Learning receive Music, Physical Education, PLTW (Project Lead The Way), and College & Career Readiness classes as part of their school day. Our students graduate eighth grade having already chosen a career pathway - entering high school with purpose, direction, and skills ready for today's workforce.
What We Offer
• $51,500 starting salary (bachelor's degree) for first year teachers
• PGP credits for license renewal
• 5% 401(k) match - dollar for dollar, vested at 90 days
