Job description

Adecco is assisting a facility in Norwood to bring on a Chemistry/Materials Science Technician. This is a great opportunity for someone with laboratory or printing experience who enjoys hands-on technical work in a manufacturing environment. The position will support daily laboratory operations, ink and adhesive compounding, quality control, raw material management, and the scale-up of materials and processes from R&D to production.
Shift: 1st Shift
Pay: $25+
Location: Norwood MA
Job Duties:
· Oversee daily laboratory activities while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment
· Enforce laboratory safety protocols and ensure proper PPE is available and utilized
· Manage hazardous waste disposal, silver scrap, waste barrels, and Lab Pak waste systems
· Monitor fume hood airflow and maintain proper solvent containment systems
· Oversee ink production, chemical compounding, and scale-up from R&D to production
· Manage waste ink streams, strain and recycle waste inks, and maintain ink hopper tracking and adjustments
· Pre-treat, cut, organize, track, and store substrate materials including PET, Kapton, and silver blanks
· Manage raw material, commercial ink, and laboratory supply inventory, procurement, and forecasting
· Perform quality control testing on raw materials, incoming inks, and production screens
· Verify material dimensions, Dyne accuracy, screen tension, and Certificate of Analysis (COA) accuracy
· Conduct sample testing, build calibration curves, print test buttons, and evaluate sensor sensitivity, viscosity, and solid content
· Set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory and production equipment including screen printers, dryers, mixers, laser cutters, and ovens
· Perform required calibrations on laboratory scales, freezers, refrigerators, dryers, and mixers
· Maintain SOPs, digital laboratory notebooks, calibration records, and production data
· Accurately calculate, record, and report test results using computer systems
· Supervise, mentor, and train interns and technicians on ink mixing, sensor testing, and laboratory safety
· Identify continuous improvement opportunities to improve workflows, reduce waste, and improve turnaround times
· Collaborate with Engineering, Operations Optimization, and Print Shop teams
Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related scientific field preferred
· 1–2 years of laboratory or printing environment experience preferred
· Basic understanding of mechanical operations including drill presses, high-speed shear mixers, rotor mixers, and screen printing
· Experience with functional inks, materials science, and analytical or quality laboratory equipment preferred
· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to adjust, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, and SharePoint
· Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including the ability to work with ratios, percentages, volumes, mix ratios, and calibration curves
· Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
· Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple tasks, inventory levels, and filing systems
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to write clear SOPs, correspondence, and technical reports
· Ability to collaborate across teams and mentor junior staff and interns
· Ability to lift and move equipment, drums, and barrels weighing up to 50 lbs
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during laboratory and production operations
· Strong manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments, hand tools, printers, and material cutting/pinning equipment
