Job Title: Assistant Storekeeper 1

Job Description

The Assistant Storekeeper 1 supports a regional materials management team by performing primarily hands-on outdoor work with a strong focus on safe and efficient material handling. This role involves operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment, loading and unloading utility materials, organizing warehouse and yard inventory, and supporting daily material distribution to field crews. The position is well-suited for someone who enjoys physical work, is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and can balance equipment operation with basic computer-based inventory tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently throughout the workday.
  • Load and unload utility materials from trucks and other vehicles, ensuring accurate placement and secure handling.
  • Organize and maintain warehouse and yard inventory, including stacking, staging, and labeling materials.
  • Support daily material distribution to field crews by pulling, staging, and issuing materials as requested.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly storage areas in both the warehouse and yard environments.
  • Perform physical outdoor work in all weather conditions, including lifting and moving materials up to 75 pounds independently.
  • Use basic computer systems to assist with inventory tracking, documentation, and other materials management tasks.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts by working overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed to support material distribution and logistics.
  • Travel occasionally to regional storerooms and locations, including Gainesville, Madison, Cornelia, Hartwell, and other nearby sites, to provide materials support as business needs require.
  • Collaborate with the materials management team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials to internal customers.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment such as bobcats, tractors, farm equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Proven ability to perform physical outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Capability to lift up to 75 pounds independently on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working outdoors for approximately 80–90% of the workday.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to learn and use inventory systems.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between assigned work locations as needed.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours during storm restoration or other critical events.
  • Forklift experience in an industrial, warehouse, or similar environment.
  • Experience in warehouse, construction, landscaping, agricultural, utility, or other outdoor labor roles.

  • Experience in inventory control and materials handling in a warehouse or yard setting.
  • Exposure to utility materials, construction supplies, or similar industrial inventory is beneficial.
  • Comfort using basic office software and inventory applications to document material movement and stock levels.

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a regional materials management team.

Work Environment

This role is based primarily in an outdoor warehouse and yard environment supporting a materials management team in the Northeast Georgia region. The primary work location is in Athens, GA, with approximately 90–95% of the time spent supporting the Athens storeroom. The expected schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The position is fully onsite and requires working both inside the warehouse and outside in the yard in all weather conditions. Forklift operation makes up approximately 90% of the workday, and other mechanized equipment may also be used as needed. Occasional travel is required to regional storerooms and locations, including Gainesville, Madison, Cornelia, Hartwell, and other nearby sites, with mileage reimbursed for approved travel between work locations. The environment is hands-on, equipment-intensive, and physically demanding, suited to individuals who prefer active, outdoor work and are comfortable in a utility and industrial materials setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
