Job Title: Director, Color and Material Design - UGG Footwear
Reports to: VP, Design - UGG Footwear
Location: Goleta, CA Hybrid
Typically 3 times per week in office, Tuesday - Thursday
The Role
As Director, Color, Material and Finish, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of color and material design for Women's, Men's, and Kid's across the UGG footwear brand. You'll translate consumer, market, and trend insights into innovative and commercially relevant color and material solutions, drive seasonal material storytelling and color palette theory, and partner cross-functionally to ensure alignment with design vision, product goals, cost, and timelines. You'll be a key leader, connecting research, creativity, and execution to deliver impactful color and material strategies across the full product line.

Your Impact
  • Lead the color and material direction, setting strategy based on creative vision in collaboration with design leadership
  • Drive ongoing, year-round color and material trend research, synthesizing key insights and presenting relevant trends to inform strategic direction and innovation
  • Collaborate with material development team to achieve design intent and manage material application processes
  • Develop innovative approaches to color theory and build strong relationships with vendors to achieve seasonal design vision
  • Enforce deadlines for key deliverables and lead creation of seasonal color and material palette, including presentation and storytelling to wider product teams
  • Deliver compelling presentations to inform broader teams on seasonal color material direction and reasoning
  • Maintain organization and upkeep of material library in the design studio
  • Assign critical goals and results, holding direct reports accountable
  • Execute and lead seasonal inspiration planning with design and product leadership
  • Present seasonal color and material trend insights, synthesizing inputs from inspiration trips, leather fairs, runway, and broader market trends
  • Manage upstream communications with design, material development, and product leadership
  • Collaborate with cross-divisional stakeholders to strategize how to meet product briefs at target cost
  • Ensure samples are organized with design team and attend seasonal kickoff and design fairs for inspiration and research

Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years' experience in footwear design or related field
  • 4+ years people management experience
  • Advanced understanding of footwear construction, materials, and process
  • Advanced understanding of color theory and storytelling to resonate with key stakeholders
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Keynote
