THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. For over 100 years, the University of Saint Mary has helped students find their way to meaningful lives and careers through an education that blends the liberal arts and a focus on critical thinking with the development of key professional skills. USM serves about 1,400 students at its main campus in Leavenworth, its satellite location in Overland Park, as well as online.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of Saint Mary, a Catholic liberal arts university in Leavenworth, Kansas, invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in Art.  This position teaches introduction to the arts and/or other art courses as needed and appropriate to the experience of the candidate.  Experience in teaching basic design, printmaking, painting, and drawing preferred.   Art instructors with knowledge of or experience with teaching digital photography, graphic design, and multimedia are a plus.  

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibilities for this faculty position include:

  • Classroom instruction;
  • Maintain effective and timely student assessment and feedback;
  • Manage and foster an inclusive educational environment to serve all learners;
  • Maintain student attendance records in accordance with university policy;
  • Submit final grades on time;
  • Demonstrate professionalism with students, faculty, staff, and administration;
  • Timely attendance at all required training, division meetings, and university-related meetings, as appropriate;
  • Complete all required training, including training on Moodle LMS

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful candidate must have a Masters of Fine Art or related field, or equivalent professional experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
