The Department

The Department of Health and Sport Science is a growing, successful department at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, OH.  With over 700 students across 4 undergraduate majors, including Nursing, and one graduate dietetics program, we collectively seek to train and inspire future leaders in health, wellness and sport. We are looking for an engaged, dedicated, and innovative faculty member to join our student-centered team.

The Position

The BSN Program at the University of Dayton, Department of Health and Sport Science is seeking a candidate who is outcomes-focused and is interested in advancing nursing students in education, the nursing profession, and Marianist values. The Assistant Clinical Professor is a nine month, non-tenure track faculty position beginning August 16, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, teaching, and evaluating courses in the University of Dayton's BSN pathway completion program as well as assisting as the program transitions into a stand-alone pre-licensure program. The candidate will work collaboratively with the Nursing Program Director as well as with interdisciplinary faculty in the Department of Health and Sport Science and the School of Education and Health Sciences. Additionally, the successful candidate who serves for six years or more is eligible to be considered for non-tenure track promotion in accordance with the university's recently implemented professional faculty promotion policy.

The clinical faculty member designation accommodates ongoing clinical work one day per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as during the 3-month summer break, allowing for work-life balance. The 9-months of pay can also be spread across a 12-month period, if desired.  

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution
  • Three years' experience as a practicing RN
  • A current, valid, unencumbered Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for obtaining an Ohio RN license
  • Articulated ability to support the School and University of Dayton's commitment to inclusive excellence.. 
  • Effective written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Experience teaching in an educational setting
  • Working collaboratively and developing positive working relationships with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentoring, working with, and/or teaching socially and culturally inclusive communities 
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Knowledge or willing to gain knowledge of the accreditation process and professional nursing standards.
  • Terminal degree in nursing or related field
