The Master Electrical Specialist works with minimal supervision and general guidance to maintain and improve both our technical capabilities and our facilities and infrastructure.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Develops plans for electrical installations, changes, and upgrades with minimal guidance; identifies specifications, materials list, designs & builds control panels, and develops electrical prints & schematics.
  • Modifies, maintains, and repairs electrical issues with all types of machinery and laboratory equipment for all business entities, Testing, Analytics, and Physics (TAP), and Process Research. Primary point of contact to troubleshoot electrical problems. Able to pinpoint the source of mechanical and control system issues when additional help is needed. Responsible for identifying changes that require a formal Management of Change (MoC).
  • Collaborates with PCT engineers to optimize system design, safety, operability, and maintainability.
  • Develops wide range of suppliers in order to identify best source based on needs (cost, timing, availability, etc.).
  • Manages the maintenance and inspection requirements (both internal and external vendor-supplied services) for various items including grounding systems, emergency shut down (ESD) systems, etc.

Facility & Infrastructure

  • Provides construction project support for facility projects including cost estimates, identification of qualified contractors, solicitation of quotes, coordination of work,
  • Responsible for contractor safety management, i.e. following Covestro rules, understanding and assuring compliance with regulations (e.g. NEC, NFPA 70E), especially for safety-critical work such as electrically classified areas

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical degree/diploma with an emphasis on electrical systems with 5+ years' experience in process equipment maintenance and repair

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' experience in process equipment maintenance and repair

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive understanding of the overall design and functioning of processing machinery and laboratory instruments
  • General understanding of the fundamentals of building construction including building code compliance
  • Basic understanding of PLC-based control systems and ladder logic
  • Ability to read engineering, architectural, and machinery drawings
  • Computer hardware and software skills.
  • Verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain collaboration from internal customers and external vendors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a safe work environment.
