Our award-winning Manassas law firm is seeking an experienced legal assistant to join our criminal defense and appellate litigation practice areas. This role will work closely with both an experienced paralegal and attorneys, assisting in the effective management of cases and ensuring seamless workflow. The ideal candidate will possess 3 to 5 years of experience working in criminal law and/ or appellate litigation within the Commonwealth of Virginia. This position calls for an individual with an engaging and dynamic demeanor, coupled with proficient communication skills both written and verbal.

Requirements:
  • Evaluate potential new matters by conducting a thorough intake assessment
  • Draft and prepare various legal documents, including pleadings, correspondence, briefs, petitions, and orders
  • Organize and manage client files, using both physical and electronic formats
  • Maintain professional communication with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and law enforcement officers through telephone, email, and face-to-face interactions
  • Schedule appointments, hearings, and manage filing deadlines
  • Confirm court appearances and ensure accurate calendaring
  • Review discovery materials
  • Uphold strict confidentiality standards in all aspects of the role
  • Handle court errands such as filing documents and requesting copies at local courthouses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish
  • Direct experience working in state courts
  • Experience in preparing and filing briefs with the Appellate Courts of Virginia
  • Familiarity with PracticeMaster or similar case management software
