The Senior Software Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor within 7-Eleven's Marketing Technology (MarTech) organization, responsible for designing, building, and operating the services and integrations that power personalized, cross-channel customer experiences. This role develops and maintains the APIs, orchestration and activation services, and platform integrations that connect MarTech's data, decisioning, and content capabilities to owned web, app, in-store, pump, CRM, and paid channels. The Senior Software Engineer partners closely with product, data engineering, architecture, and data science to turn personalization and campaign requirements into reliable, scalable, production-grade software. As a senior individual contributor, this role sets engineering standards, mentors other engineers, and helps consolidate fragmented capabilities into a cohesive, well-governed MarTech platform.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITES:

  • Design, build, test, and operate backend services, APIs, and integrations supporting personalization, campaign activation, and content delivery across MarTech channels.
  • Implement and maintain integrations across the MarTech stack (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Contentstack, Databricks/Hightouch, Kafka event streams) to enable real-time, event-driven experiences.
  • Contribute to the orchestration/activation layer that consumes models, rules, and audiences and delivers consistent decisions to owned and paid channels.
  • Partner with data engineering and data science to operationalize model outputs and customer attributes for use in production decisions.
  • Ensure engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • Reduce fragmentation and single points of failure by documenting services, standardizing patterns, and consolidating personalization capabilities under MarTech.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and support estimation, design reviews, and delivery planning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 5+ years

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: Cloud certifications (AWS or Azure) preferred.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Go) and RESTful API design.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with event streaming and real-time data (e.g., Kafka) and integrating with data platforms such as Databricks.
  • Working knowledge of MarTech/personalization ecosystems (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, CDP/identity, headless CMS such as Contentstack).
  • Solid understanding of software design, testing, observability, and secure, compliant handling of customer data.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across product, data, and architecture teams.
