What is a marketing operations manager?

A marketing operations manager supervises marketing department staff to maintain productivity and smooth operations. Unlike a marketing project manager who focuses on a particular marketing campaign, a marketing operations manager oversees the overall marketing department and ensures the staff meets their goals. Job duties include evaluating market trends to develop new marketing strategies, creating department goals, delegating project tasks to employees, and training new marketing employees. Qualifications for this career include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field, extensive marketing experience, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a marketing operations manager?

To thrive as a Marketing Operations Manager, you need expertise in marketing strategy, data analysis, project management, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (like HubSpot or Marketo), CRM systems, and analytics tools is typically required, along with certifications such as Salesforce or Google Analytics. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help drive cross-functional collaboration and process optimization. These skills ensure seamless marketing execution, data-driven decision-making, and alignment between marketing initiatives and overall business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by marketing operations managers when aligning marketing technology with organizational goals?

Marketing Operations Managers often encounter challenges when ensuring that marketing technology stacks effectively support broader business objectives. Integrating new tools with existing systems, maintaining data accuracy across platforms, and securing buy-in from cross-functional teams can be complex. Additionally, staying updated with rapidly evolving marketing technologies while balancing cost and utility requires ongoing attention. Successful Marketing Operations Managers proactively communicate with stakeholders, regularly evaluate tech performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement to address these hurdles.

Job description

Back

This role requires occasional presence at our Rhode Island headquarters and on-site collaboration with our New England team.

You’ve seen what happens when great marketing starts to work.

The campaign that created real conversations and pipeline. The nurture program that kept the right audience engaged. The operational rhythm that made marketing more focused, measurable, and easier to scale.

You’ve been a critical part of this work. Now you want more responsibility for how the pieces come together — and more room to build, test, improve, and see the commercial impact of your work.

You like building campaigns, improving websites, creating nurture journeys, making HubSpot work harder, digging into performance, and removing friction from the buyer journey.

SQA Group is looking for a Growth Marketing & Operations Manager to help build a more connected, commercially impactful growth engine. You’ll be part of a growing Growth & Innovation function turning strategic priorities, new service concepts, and market activation charters into campaigns, demand programs, digital experiences, and measurable commercial momentum. This role reports to our Chief Growth & Innovation Officer and will work closely with the future Head of Brand & Market Activation as we continue building the team

What You’ll Help Build

Campaigns That Move New Ideas Into Market

You’ll help turn activation charters, new service concepts, and market ideas into campaigns that do not yet exist in the business.

  • Partner with Growth & Innovation leaders to translate activation strategies, service concepts, and market ideas into campaign plans, audience journeys, channel approaches, conversion paths, and launch requirements
  • Build and launch integrated campaigns across email, website, social, events, webinars, content, partner initiatives, and other relevant channels
  • Create the landing pages, forms, workflows, email programs, segments, and infrastructure needed to bring new ideas into market
  • Monitor early performance, identify where campaigns are gaining or losing momentum, and help test, learn, and improve
  • Help strong market ideas become campaigns that can be scaled, refined, or retired based on real response

Always-On Demand Programs for Mature Capabilities

You’ll help build the always-on demand model for mature service lines where SQA Group already has strong expertise, proof, and buyer relevance.

  • Responsible for the health and continuous improvement of our marketing technology environment, identifying where HubSpot, automation, integrations, data, and emerging capabilities can make the growth engine work better
  • Build lifecycle, nurture, re-engagement, and database activation programs around priority service lines
  • Use HubSpot workflows, segmentation, lifecycle stages, automation, and emerging platform capabilities to make demand programs more connected and scalable
  • Operate always-on email, content distribution, social, and digital engagement programs that keep mature offerings visible in market
  • Use conversion optimization, A/B testing, behavioral triggers, personalization, and AI-enabled workflows to improve performance over time
  • Improve existing demand programs based on audience behavior, market response, performance data, and commercial priorities

Strong Digital Experiences

You’ll help ensure our digital presence evolves with our business, services, campaigns, and market ambitions.

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for keeping our website, social media, email marketing, and blogging channels active, current, connected, and continuously improving
  • Use performance insights, experimentation, content updates, and digital improvements to increase engagement and conversion
  • Build and improve landing pages, forms, conversion paths, and other digital experiences
  • Maintain an organized environment for market-facing content and campaign assets
  • Work with designers, contractors, and specialized partners when external expertise is needed

Better Visibility Into What Marketing Is Creating

You’ll help connect marketing activity, audience engagement, qualified demand, pipeline, and revenue.

  • Improve HubSpot, Salesforce, website, and reporting connections across campaigns, attribution, conversion, and pipeline visibility
  • Strengthen lead management, qualification signals, routing, follow-up, and buyer engagement visibility
  • Identify where audiences and leads stall and recommend changes to campaigns, journeys, nurture, conversion paths, or handoff processes
  • Build dashboards and reporting rhythms that show what is working, what is not, and where to adjust
  • Use AI-enabled analytics and emerging capabilities to identify performance patterns, surface campaign and audience insights, and recommend opportunities to improve demand programs

This Role Might Be for You If…

  • You have 6+ years of experience across growth marketing, demand generation, digital marketing, lifecycle marketing, marketing operations, or related B2B marketing roles
  • You’ve worked across enough of the modern B2B marketing ecosystem — campaigns, digital properties, demand programs, marketing technology, audiences, conversion, and performance — to understand how the pieces connect, even if you have not been the single owner of all of them
  • You have meaningful hands-on experience working in HubSpot or a comparable marketing automation platform: building campaigns, workflows, segments, automation, and reporting, and understanding how marketing data and CRM connectivity support demand generation and pipeline visibility
  • You can move from campaign performance or buyer behavior to building the email, workflow, landing page, segment, report, or experiment that improves it
  • You’ve supported integrated campaigns that contributed to qualified demand, pipeline, revenue, audience growth, client expansion, or market engagement
  • You know enough about modern marketing to connect the pieces — and you’re excited to keep deepening your expertise
  • You’re curious about AI and emerging technologies and want to use them to improve marketing
  • You’re ready for broader responsibility, greater visibility, and more accountability for commercial outcomes while staying close to the work

This is a builder role inside a growth function that is still taking shape. You’ll help define how SQA Group connects activation, demand generation, digital experience, marketing operations, and performance visibility — and make meaningful progress visible, measurable, and real.

Thank you for your interest in pursuing a career at SQA Group! SQA Group is an equal opportunity employer and supports workforce diversity.
