Job description

The Marketing & Communication Assistant supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Marketing and Communications Intern at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined and builds the communityโ€™s understanding of the YMCAโ€™s cause and impact through development and implementation of effective marketing and communications strategies.


  • Editing and writing content for diverse channels and audiences including Y stories.
  • Produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans.
  • Support and content creation for social media.
  • Assist with website content development and editing that will include assisting all Directors.
  • Manage special projects as assigned, including story, photo and video organization.
  • Assist with brand management, including updating and developing tools.
  • Support digital media advertising.
  • May support association email marketing communications and training.
  • Graphic design, photography and videography work are integrated into Y stories.
  • Works directly with the Director of Fund Development.
  • This individual may also work with other Directors and colleagues throughout the association.
  • Assist with coordination of special projects/events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelors degree in a related field preferred, or working towards the completion of one.
  • Previous professional experience in marketing, advertising and or graphic design.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software โ€“ Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator preferred.
  • Must have strong experience with Canva.
  • Must have some experience with video production.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
