THE OPPORTUNITY


Louisiana Cat is seeking a Marine Diesel Engine Instructor to support the development of marine service technicians. This role is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based technical training focused on Caterpillar marine diesel engines, vessel power systems, and related support equipment. The instructor will help technicians build diagnostic, repair, and safety skills while supporting career progression within Louisiana Cat's technician competency framework. This position will be based out of our Morgan City, LA location but will travel to New Iberia, LA and Houma, LA as needed.


YOUR CONTRIBUTION

  • Deliver instructor-led training on Caterpillar marine diesel engines, systems, and components
  • Facilitate both classroom  instruction and hands-on shop training
  • Teach engine diagnostics, disassembly/assembly, fuel systems, cooling systems, air systems, and electronic controls
  • Provide instruction on marine safety practices, including job hazard analysis and safe work procedures
  • Support technician onboarding and skill development pathways
  • Evaluate technician performance through practical assessments and knowledge checks
  • Maintain training materials, aids, and shop equipment used for instruction
  • Travel as needed to New Iberia and Houma to support regional training needs
  • Work closely with service managers to identify skill gaps and training priorities
  • Promote a strong safety culture and professional work standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive experience working on marine diesel engines (Caterpillar experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Marine propulsion and auxiliary engines
    • Fuel, air, cooling, and lubrication systems
    • Electronic engine controls and diagnostics
  • Proven troubleshooting and repair experience in marine or heavy equipment environments
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading hands-on training
  • Proficient with computer systems for documentation and training tools
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License with clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Requires physical movement as required by job description

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous instructor, or lead technician experience
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar SIS, CAT ET, and diagnostic software
  • Experience working in marine, offshore, or vessel environments
  • Certifications related to technical instruction, safety, or marine systems
