Job description

HGA is currently hiring for a Senior Mapping Designer in the Lexington, KY area.
This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of complex engineering design projects, transforming high-level concepts into detailed, construction-ready deliverables. The Senior Mapping Designer brings deep industry experience to ensure designs are practical, accurate, and aligned with project requirements, while operating with minimal oversight. This position also plays a key role in guiding design quality, supporting cross-functional coordination, and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
  • Interprets engineering concepts and translates them into clear, actionable design plans.
  • Develops detailed designs and layouts for review and approval.
  • Creates comprehensive construction drawing packages using multiple design platforms and company standards.
  • Ensures all designs meet quality expectations for accuracy and constructability.
  • Coordinates closely with engineering, project teams, and other disciplines to maintain alignment.
  • Builds layouts using project scope, client input, and third-party survey data.
  • Reviews and validates drawings produced by other designers.
  • Evaluates and provides feedback on vendor and supplier shop drawings.
  • Prepares cost estimates based on project scope and design documentation.
  • Leads design efforts on projects, serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Provides oversight, direction, and mentorship to designers and drafters.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a Senior Mapping Designer in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • At least 10 years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D (up to version 2016).
  • Technology training in drafting and design from an accredited institution; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with a consulting engineering firm preferred.
