Job description

HGA is seeking a Designer/Staker II to support operations in Brighton, CO. The Designer/Staker II will independently perform complex electric distribution design and field staking activities for overhead and underground systems. This role supports a variety of utility clients and requires a strong working knowledge of distribution design standards, field conditions, and project execution. The Designer/Staker II is expected to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and client coordination.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of medium-voltage overhead and underground electric distribution lines, service extensions, and system improvements.
  • Perform field staking activities including route evaluations, equipment assessments, site measurements, and right-of-way reviews.
  • Develop detailed construction drawings, work orders, and supporting documentation in accordance with client-specific standards.
  • Analyze field data, maps, drawings, aerial imagery, and utility system records to determine optimal design solutions.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and customers on assigned projects, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Designer/Staker I team members as needed.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable safety codes, utility standards, and project requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support project schedules and deliverables.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electric distribution design, staking, surveying, or joint-use projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in both outdoor field environments and office settings.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must live within commuting distance of Brighton, CO or be willing to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or technical degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with utility design software, GIS, or staking applications.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD and O-Calc preferred.

The pay for this position will be in the $30-$40/hour range.
