Job description

The Technical Publications Writer researches, develops, and produces the technical information that supports CLARK products before and after sale, for both dealers and customers. Working from engineering records, vendor data, and hands-on examination of equipment, this role creates Operator Manuals, Service and Repair Manuals, Technical Information Bulletins, and Service Bulletins in a variety of formats to meet customer, dealer, and CMHC needs.

Accuracy is critical as the information produced serves as legal documentation of the product and is relied upon directly by customers and dealers in the field. The role requires close, ongoing collaboration with engineers, vendors, service engineers, legal counsel, and international CLARK affiliates in South Korea, Vietnam, and Germany, so strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

This position is an onsite position in our Global Headquarters office in Flower Mound, TX.ย 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES

Research & Information Gathering

  • Research and gather illustrations, data, and information related to CLARK products and their components needed to develop each publication
  • Referencing sources such as: engineering bills of materials (BOM), online parts catalogs (PartsPRO PLUS), engineering change orders (ECO), customer engineering requests, engineering CAD system (Siemens NX), ERP systems (BaaN and PRMS), and assembly (SI) drawings
  • Using vendor materials such as sketches, product information, publications, etc.
  • Reusing information and content from previously created documents
  • Hands-on assembling and disassembling of forklift and their components to understand parts, processes, and function
  • Operating various forklift types to directly observe and document its function
  • Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics

Content Development & Illustration

  • Edit and rewrite vendor-supplied content into CLARKโ€™s format and style
  • Develop both raster and vector technical illustrations
  • Use CAD software to create vector illustrations
  • Assemble illustrations, descriptions, and supporting information into new CLARK publications
  • Review & Publication
  • Route documents for review to engineering, service, training, legal, and other stakeholders as required
  • Incorporate feedback and revise documents and illustrations as necessary
  • Prepare final documents for formatting, publication, and distribution for both print and digital formats
  • Create and distribute updated documentation whenever engineering or vendor changes affect existing publications
  • Prioritize and schedule work to ensure on-time completion of publication projects
  • Report regularly on project status, including periodic status updates to the supervisor
  • Maintain and expand detailed knowledge of CLARK product mechanics, and stay current on trends and tools in technical writing, information design
  • Collaborate effectively with CLARK affiliates in Korea, Vietnam, and Europe

Additional Functions:

  • Participate in on-going training and professional development programs
  • Travel domestically as needed to gather product information or support publication work
  • Support the LMS (learning management system) team with content creation and editing
  • Assemble, disassemble, and/or operate various material handling equipment and components
  • Work independently and manage projects from initiation through completion
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and consistent attention to detail
  • Exhibit initiative and leadership within cross-functional project teams
  • Edit and improve documentation produced by affiliate teams in Germany, South Korea, and Vietnam
  • Maintain working expertise of CAD software such as Siemens NX and Lattice XVL Studio

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of Associateโ€™s degree in engineering or related technical field; Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, or related field is preferred
  • 2-3+ years of experience in technical writing, technical illustration, or a related field, ideally in a manufacturing, industrial equipment, or automotive environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and genuine interest in how CLARK products function
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, dealers, internal, global affiliates, etc.
  • Proficient with using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign and FrameMaker), illustration software (Lattice XVL Studio, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, TechSmith Snagit), CAD (Siemens NX)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely and without sponsership

ENVIRONMENTAL / PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

This role works primarily in an office environment, with approximately 70% of time spent at a computer creating service-related support documents and entering or retrieving information in enterprise systems. The position may require local and/or international travel.

Gathering technical information often requires close visual examination of truck components, including observing how parts are assembled or how assembly and disassembly processes are performed. The incumbent may also be required to gain information firsthand by operating, assembling, and/or disassembling equipment. The office workspace is climate-controlled and equipped with a standard personal computer, monitor, and general office equipment.ย
