Mood Fabrics is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Textile Product Specialist to support the management and launch of new products on our website. This role is ideal for someone with extensive textile, fabric, fiber, and sewing knowledge who enjoys applying that expertise to product data, e-commerce operations, and product merchandising.

This is not an entry-level data entry position. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate, identify, classify, and accurately document a wide variety of fabrics and textiles. They will serve as an internal resource on fabric characteristics, fiber content, construction, and end-use applications while ensuring products are accurately represented online.

The Textile Product Specialist will work closely with our Product Content team to prepare products for launch and maintain the quality and accuracy of our product catalog.

Responsibilities

Product Launch Coordination

  • Coordinate with copywriters to ensure new products are properly prepared, launched, and displayed on the website.
  • Check in incoming product samples, organize them into batches, and prepare them for copywriting, photography, videography, and social media production.
  • Assist in maintaining product launch timelines and ensuring products are ready for publication.

Product Data Management

  • Create and maintain accurate product titles.
  • Research, verify, and record product specifications, including fiber content, width, weight, pattern repeat, stretch characteristics, and other relevant details.
  • Assign appropriate color families, categories, and subcategories.
  • Ensure products have accurate pricing and product information prior to launch.
  • Update existing product information as needed, including titles, group numbers, classifications, and corrected specifications.

Textile Identification & Classification

  • Evaluate fabrics and textiles to determine appropriate classifications and product descriptions.
  • Identify fabric constructions, weaves, knits, and specialty textile characteristics.
  • Assess fabric hand, drape, weight, stretch, opacity, and recommended end uses.
  • Verify or assist in determining fiber content through documentation review, physical inspection, and burn testing when necessary.
  • Help identify unknown, mislabeled, or incomplete products received from vendors.

Quality Control

  • Review and process product data corrections and updates.
  • Process product information such as GSM updates.
  • Verify the accuracy and consistency of textile information across product listings.
  • Assist in maintaining data standards for product catalog organization and classification.

Product & Inventory Support

  • Serve as a resource for Customer Service by answering questions regarding fabric properties, sewing applications, garment suitability, and product specifications.
  • Occasionally inspect products in the warehouse to verify colors, textures, fabric characteristics, or other details.
  • Assist the Inventory team with fabric identification, color discrepancies, unlabeled products, and determining appropriate panel cut locations.
  • Serve as an internal textile knowledge resource across multiple departments.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Advanced knowledge of fabrics, textiles, fibers, fabric construction, and sewing.
  • Strong understanding of natural fibers, synthetic fibers, blends, woven fabrics, knit fabrics, and specialty textiles.
  • Experience identifying fabric characteristics, including hand, drape, stretch, weight, and end-use applications.
  • Understanding of fiber identification methods, including burn testing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets and product data.
  • Strong written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in textiles, fabric retail, apparel production, costume design, fashion design, sewing, product development, or a related field.
  • Experience with Shopify.
  • Experience with CounterPoint or similar inventory/POS systems.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Google Sheets, Docs, Drive, Calendar).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with product content, merchandising, e-commerce, or retail operations.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is passionate about textiles and possesses a high level of fabric knowledge. They can confidently distinguish between fabric types, understand fiber characteristics, and accurately determine appropriate product classifications and applications.

Success in this role requires a combination of textile expertise, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate enjoys working behind the scenes to ensure products are accurately represented, properly categorized, and ready for customers to discover and purchase.
