The Senior Director, Tax Strategy & Operations is a senior business leader responsible for helping scale and align Armanino's Tax business under Vision 2030. Working alongside Tax leadership and business operations, this leader drives enterprise execution across regions, practices, industries, and service lines so the organization operates as one integrated business.

This role focuses on strategy execution, organizational effectiveness, partner alignment, growth initiatives, leadership development, and cross-functional collaboration. The primary purpose is to build a high-performing, growth-oriented professional services organization positioned for sustained long-term success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Partner-in-Charge and Tax Leadership Team to execute Tax Vision 2030 and translate strategic priorities into measurable action.

  • Lead complex initiatives requiring coordination across practices, regions, industries, service lines, and stakeholder groups.

  • Help shape annual business plans, investment priorities, organizational design, resource allocation, and leadership succession strategies.

  • Identify opportunities to improve growth, scalability, profitability, client experience, and organizational effectiveness.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on business strategy, enterprise leadership, and major organizational decisions.

  • Build alignment across regional and national leadership teams while promoting transparency, accountability, and shared ownership.

  • Facilitate collaboration among partners and leaders, resolve organizational friction, and expand the sharing of best practices and innovation.

  • Champion collaboration across Tax, Consulting, Audit & Assurance, and firmwide service lines to increase cross-selling and integrated client solutions.

  • Support go-to-market strategies, emerging capabilities, strategic pursuits, and enterprise-first growth opportunities.

  • Develop leadership expectations and coach partners on collaboration, team development, business leadership, and enterprise thinking.

  • Identify and develop future leaders, support succession planning, and sponsor development programs for directors, senior managers, and emerging leaders.

  • Partner with regional and national leaders on career pathways, promotion discussions, senior lateral hiring, and leadership integration.

  • Partner with business operations leadership to strengthen execution capabilities, scalable delivery models, and continuous improvement.

  • Drive leadership adoption of tools, technology, AI, automation, and operational best practices that enhance business performance.

  • Help ensure a consistent client experience across regions and practices while providing business-level escalation support.

  • Serve as a voting member of the Tax Leadership Team and lead enterprise initiatives on its behalf.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience leading professional services organizations, business units, practice groups, or comparable complex enterprises.

  • Demonstrated success driving growth, organizational transformation, business strategy, and execution in a complex matrix environment.

  • Proven ability to align diverse stakeholders, build high-performing leadership teams, and lead through influence rather than positional authority.

  • Strong understanding of professional services economics and operating models, with sufficient technical credibility to engage senior professionals and clients.

  • Flexibility to travel across regions and work remotely while collaborating in person approximately half the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, JD, LLM, MBA, MST, or a comparable professional credential.

  • Experience developing future leaders and coordinating succession for critical leadership roles.

  • Experience supporting integrated go-to-market strategies, cross-selling, technology adoption, AI, automation, or process improvement in professional services.

Certain states require us to disclose the pay range and benefits summary for job openings. For Colorado residents, the compensation range for this position: $226,200 - $308,100. For Washington residents, Illinois residents, New York residents, and Southern California residents, the compensation range for this position: $248,800 - $338,900. For Northern California residents, the compensation range for this position: $260,100 - $354,300. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location. Eligible employees at certain levels can participate in a discretionary long-term financial incentive plan, subject to plan participation rules.
