Job description

We are seeking an experienced Site Safety Manager to oversee all aspects of workplace safety at one of our industrial manufacturing customer locations in Bedford Park, Illinois.

The Site Safety Manager will serve as our primary onsite safety representative during daytime hours, working closely with our management, customer representatives, supervisors, and employees to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with all regulatory and customer safety requirements.

This position is ideal for a hands-on safety professional who enjoys working in an industrial environment and building a strong culture of safety.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as our primary onsite safety representative at customer location.
  • Implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and our safety policies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, jobsite observations, and hazard assessments.
  • Lead new employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training programs.
  • Conduct and document Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work permits, fall protection, machine guarding, and other applicable safety programs.
  • Coordinate occupational health programs, including annual hearing conservation testing, respirator fit testing, medical evaluations, and any additional customer or OSHA-required testing.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee training, certifications, medical clearances, testing, and regulatory documentation.
  • Track expiration dates for certifications, medical evaluations, and required training to ensure employees remain compliant and qualified.
  • Manage the site's hearing conservation program and assist with OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, as applicable.
  • Coordinate and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) inventories.
  • Participate in customer safety meetings and serve as the primary liaison between customer safety personnel.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and ensure all required safety documentation and training are completed before work begins.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response planning.
  • Prepare and submit safety reports, metrics, and other required documentation to our management and customer representatives as directed.
  • Work closely with supervisors, managers, and employees to identify hazards, improve safe work practices, and foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Respond to safety issues outside of normal business hours as operational needs require (rare).
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of two (2) years of industrial safety experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, construction, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and employee safety training.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while building strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, customer representatives, and management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
  • CSP, CHST, OHST, or other professional safety certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience supporting millwright, mechanical maintenance, or industrial contractor operations.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, food processing, or other heavy industrial environments.
