Safety Manager

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and managing all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) activities on an assigned project or facility. This position ensures compliance with Austin Industrial safety programs, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards while promoting a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and continuous improvement.

The Safety Manager serves as a key resource to project leadership, craft professionals, subcontractors, and customers by providing guidance, training, coaching, and oversight of site safety programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all site health, safety, and environmental (HSE) activities for assigned projects or facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with Austin Industrial safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Site Safety Execution Plan (SEP), including annual reviews and updates.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and safety evaluations to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and prepare accurate reports and documentation.
  • Deliver new hire orientations, safety meetings, project-specific training, and ongoing workforce development programs.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors, craft professionals, and subcontractors on safe work practices and incident prevention.
  • Monitor project safety performance, analyze trends, and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain required safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with customers, project leadership, craft personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Represent Austin Industrial professionally during customer meetings, audits, and safety reviews.
  • Support subcontractor safety development and ensure adherence to project safety expectations.
  • Participate in regional safety initiatives, professional organizations, and cross-site audit activities.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging safety trends.
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence through employee engagement, leadership involvement, and proactive risk management.

Relationships

  • Reports to the Project Manager, Site Manager, Regional Safety Manager, or designated Operations Leader.
  • Works closely with project management teams, craft professionals, subcontractors, customer representatives, and Austin Industrial leadership.
  • Serves as the primary site safety resource for project personnel and customers.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure compliance with all Austin Industrial, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
  • Promote employee involvement in safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead by example and reinforce a culture where safety is a core value.

Qualifications

Required

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive safety and health experience in industrial construction, maintenance, manufacturing, or related environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.

Preferred

  • BCSP Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST).
  • BCSP Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
  • NCCER Construction Safety Technician.
  • NCCER Safety Technology Certification.
  • OSHA 500 or OSHA 501 Certification.
  • Additional safety-related certifications or equivalent professional credentials.
  • Experience managing safety programs on large industrial construction or maintenance projects.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in both office and industrial field environments.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, and navigate active construction and maintenance sites.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

This position routinely works in active industrial facilities and construction environments where exposure to noise, moving equipment, elevated work areas, varying weather conditions, and other occupational hazards may occur.
