Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP) Job Description

The purpose of this position is to meet and surpass State regulations established by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment concerning medication management in an Assisted Living facility.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - SHIFT AVAILABILITY ALSO REQUIRED - SCHEDULING EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS

  • QMAP will be provided education and training to properly provide medication management and appropriate documentation.
  • The QMAP responsibilities will be to provide medication management for the residents of Golden Lodge according the physicians orders, following the rights learned from the medication management education program.
  • EMARS will be signed correctly following protocol.
  • QMAPS will report to and work closely with the Supervisor Manager concerning medication ordering, documentation, new scripts, issues and/or concerns throughout the facility.
  • QMAPS will place medication orders according to physician’s scripts. QMAP’s will provide the Medication Manager and/or Administrative Assistant with a copy of the order being placed including the fax sheet for review.
  • QMAP will follow up on all correspondence placed to physicians and/or the facilities pharmacy, keeping Care Staff Manager and/or Administrator apprised of the process.
  • QMAPS trained in counting roll packs will thoroughly check for missing medications and incorrect medications.
  • QMAPS will be mindful of CDPHE regulations for medication management in an Assisted Living Facility.
  • QMAP’s will address medication issues with the Medication Manager on her office day only. A mailbox is available in the front offices for paperwork. Concerns that need to be addressed immediately and cannot wait until the Medication Managers office day are to be turned over to the Administrative Assistant to handle.
  • The Administrative Assistant will assist the Medication Manager with oversight to meet CDPHE regulations for medication management in an Assisted Living Facility.
  • QMAP’s are not to leave their responsibilities concerning medication orders, documentation, signing in medications, counting roll packs, etc. for the Medication Manager.
  • QMAP’s will count narcotic medications at the start and end of their assigned shift. Two QMAP’s are to be present and count as a team. QMAP’s will sign out the narcotic sheet after each narcotic is given.
  • QMAP’s will distribute/monitor medications for residents only after medication counts are completed.
  • QMAP’s are still considered caregivers and are expected to care give during their shift. They work with the scheduled caregiver on duty.
  • Successful completion of a state approved medication administration course does not lead to certification or a license. Upon completion of the medication administration training course, the individual is considered qualified to administer medications and is referred to as a Qualified Medication Administration Person, or QMAP.
  • Successful completion of a state approved medication course does not allow an individual to make any type of judgment, assessment or evaluation of a client.
  • Successful completion of a state approved medication course does not allow an individual to administer medication by injection or tube. QMAP’s are not allowed to draw insulin or other medication into syringes or dial up the dosage of an insulin PEN.
