What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Pyrolysis, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Pyrolysis, you need a strong background in chemical engineering, process management, and a solid understanding of pyrolysis technology, typically supported by a relevant degree and industry experience. Familiarity with process control systems, safety regulations, and environmental compliance tools is essential. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing teams and optimizing operations. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and compliant pyrolysis plant performance while driving innovation and productivity.

What are some common challenges faced by a Manager Pyrolysis, and how can they be addressed?

A Manager Pyrolysis often encounters challenges such as maintaining consistent process efficiency, ensuring strict safety compliance, and managing feedstock variability. Addressing these issues typically involves close coordination with operations and maintenance teams, continuous monitoring of plant performance, and implementing robust training programs for staff. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are crucial, as the manager must quickly respond to equipment malfunctions or fluctuating input materials to minimize downtime and optimize output quality.

What does a Manager Pyrolysis do?

A Manager Pyrolysis oversees the operations of a pyrolysis plant or unit, which involves breaking down organic materials at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen to produce fuels, chemicals, or other valuable products. Job description

About Charm

Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.

Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we've scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.

We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our company values.

Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

Charm Industrial is building toward ATFBR, and we need someone to own how Pyro Operations learns, qualifies, and improves. The Process Specialist is the person who keeps our processes documented, our operators trained, and our operational knowledge current - so that when engineering hands off a new process, operations can absorb it and run.

This is not a desk job. You will spend time on the floor with operators, writing and maintaining SOPs that reflect what actually happens, and closing the loop between how a process was designed and how it runs day-to-day.

This role reports to the Operations Manager

Your Responsibilities
  • Own the operator training and qualification pathway for Pyro Operations - run the program, track progress, and maintain qualification records

  • Maintain SOPs and training materials; update documentation as processes evolve and before they fall out of sync with practice

  • Monitor process performance; identify deviations early and drive corrective action before they become incidents

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities on the pyrolysis platform

  • Participate in Train-the-Trainer with Manufacturing Engineering during new process introductions; formally accept process ownership at handoff

  • Serve as the first call for operators with process questions during production

You Bring
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in an industrial processing environment - oil & gas, heavy manufacturing, chemicals, or similar

  • Experience writing or maintaining SOPs

  • Comfortable working with data - you can read a performance trend, identify what's off, and explain it to an operator and an engineer in the same conversation

  • Strong written and verbal communication; you write clearly and you follow through

  • Prior experience training or qualifying operators is a plus

  • Familiarity with pyrolysis, gasification, or thermal processing

$28 - $42 an hour
What We Offer
  • Equity ownership through stock options
  • 100% employee healthcare premiums covered
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with multiple plan options
  • Employer-funded HSA contributions for eligible HDHP plans
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a 50% match on contributions up to 6%
  • Paid leave, including parental and medical leave
  • PPE and workwear allowances
  • Annual professional development stipend
  • Employee recognition programs that celebrate impactful work and team contributions
  • Opportunities for internal growth, career development, and transition into climate from a range of industries and backgrounds

Visa Sponsorship Policy

Since we are a small startup, certain accommodations for visa sponsorship may not be within our capability. At this time, Charm Industrial is only sponsoring E3 and TN visas.

Our Commitment

Charm Industrial is an equal opportunity employer. We hire based on skills, experience, and passion for our mission. Climate challenges require a wide range of perspectives and expertise, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We're excited to grow our team with people who bring unique strengths and help us improve as a company.

At Charm, we may use AI-enabled tools to support certain aspects of the hiring process, including organizing candidate information and highlighting experience that may be relevant to a particular role. In a world where AI-assisted resumes, synthetic content, and deepfakes are increasingly common, these tools help our team navigate the process thoughtfully and efficiently. Every application and resume is reviewed by a member of our hiring team, and hiring decisions are made by people, not algorithms. Our recruiting process is designed to ensure candidates are evaluated fairly, consistently, and in alignment with our equal employment opportunity commitments. AI tools support our team's work, but they do not replace human judgment or determine hiring outcomes.
