Job description

FLORAL DELIVERY DRIVER (Part-Time)
Reports to: Store Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
As a Floral Delivery Driver, you will ensure the timely and accurate delivery of floral arrangements to our valued customers. This role involves more than just transporting flowers - it's about delivering smiles, comfort, and care. The ideal candidate will represent our company with professionalism and warmth, handling delicate arrangements with care and maintaining excellent customer service.
The Floral Delivery Driver is responsible for preparing delivery routes, loading and unloading floral products, confirming delivery details, and ensuring all deliveries are made promptly and safely. Attention to detail, time management, and a passion for service are essential for success in this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely and efficiently transport floral arrangements to clients within the Columbia area.
  • Confirm the accuracy and presentation quality of all arrangements prior to and during delivery.
  • Adhere to scheduled delivery times, ensuring punctuality and reliability in all customer interactions.
  • Secure appropriate forms of delivery confirmations
  • Provide courteous and professional communication to customers, maintaining a demeanor that reflects the positive and vibrant image of the brand.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of local streets, neighborhoods, and traffic patterns in the Columbia area.
  • Utilize GPS and route optimization tools effectively to ensure efficient delivery routing.
  • Proactively adjust to unforeseen traffic conditions or delays to uphold delivery schedules.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the delivery vehicle, ensuring it is equipped with all necessary supplies.
  • Promptly report any mechanical issues and coordinate regular maintenance appointments.
  • Refuel the vehicle as needed and accurately track fuel consumption and related expenses.
  • Assist with the care and upkeep of plants and floral inventory, including watering, pruning, and general maintenance.
  • Support overall store cleanliness by performing routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and waste disposal.
  • Organize inventory and ensure that floral supplies are stored in designated locations.
  • Answer incoming calls and assist customers with placing floral orders when required.
  • Provide in-person support for walk-in customers, including assistance with order pickups and general inquiries.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of various flowers and plants, including basic care and maintenance requirements.
  • Support floral designers with arrangement preparation or contribute to simple floral designs as needed.
  • Remain informed of current floral trends, seasonal offerings, and customer preferences to better assist in product presentation and customer service.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience and/or ability required.   • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license (Class E) with a clean driving record.
  • Proven experience in delivery driving or a customer-facing role is an asset.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices and route optimization tools.
  • Basic knowledge of floral care or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to handling items with care.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and arrange flowers and plants up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is split between driving routes in the Columbia area and assisting in-store.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions while loading/unloading and making deliveries.
  • Interaction with customers, team members, and floral designers on a daily basis.
  • Frequent exposure to floral products, including fresh flowers, plants, and potentially chemicals like floral preservatives.
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent customer interactions.
  • Occasional work in cold storage areas to preserve flowers and plants.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including a variety of shifts, days, evenings, nights, and weekends including overtime, as needed
  • Pass annual review of Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) to establish and continue insurability under PFS' corporate policies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry floral arrangements and supplies up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequent loading and unloading of delivery vehicle.
  • Must be able to drive in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of hands and arms for handling arrangements and store tasks.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods and enter/exit the vehicle repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity
  • Consistently perform repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity required for cutting and arranging flowers
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to reach, lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to safely use floral tools, including knives, shears, and floral foam.
  • Ability to speak to, hear, and understand others via phone and in person in English
