The main difference between a Manager Openedge Developer and an Openedge Developer is that the manager oversees teams and projects, focusing on leadership and coordination, while the developer primarily focuses on coding and technical tasks. Both roles require Openedge expertise and certifications, but the managerial role adds responsibilities related to team management and project oversight.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager OpenEdge Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager OpenEdge Developer, you need expertise in Progress OpenEdge development, database management, and application architecture, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with OpenEdge tools (ABL, Progress 4GL), version control systems, and experience with ERP or business applications is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help in managing teams and driving project success. These skills are crucial for delivering robust business solutions, ensuring code quality, and leading development teams effectively.

How does a Manager OpenEdge Developer typically balance hands-on development with team management responsibilities?

A Manager Openedge Developer often splits their time between direct involvement in coding or solution design and overseeing the work of their development team. While they may still contribute to critical technical tasks, much of their focus shifts to mentoring team members, setting project priorities, and ensuring project milestones are met. Effective communication and delegation are key, as they must coordinate with stakeholders, address technical challenges, and support professional growth within their team. This balance requires strong organizational skills and the ability to shift between technical problem-solving and leadership duties as needed.

What is a Manager OpenEdge Developer?

Manager Openedge Developers are professionals who oversee teams of software developers working with Progress OpenEdge, a development platform for building business applications. They combine technical expertise in OpenEdge programming with leadership skills to manage projects, coordinate development activities, and ensure that applications meet business requirements. Their responsibilities include supervising staff, setting project goals, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver robust software solutions.
