Job Summary:
The Deputy Corporate Manager of Welding will assist the Corporate Manager of Welding in actively managing the Welding and Applied Technology Center (WATC) and support the Corporate Welding and NDE Services program. Will support the Corporate Welding Program with project material and equipment resource planning, project development aligned with construction planning and support early customer engagement. Will identify welding technology advancements and develop evaluation testing in coordination with the Corporate Welding Team. Will support and lead specialized testing, construction mock-ups, and evaluations at the WATC in collaboration with Bechtel Welding and Construction teams.
Supervision Received: The Deputy Corporate Manager of Welding reports to the Corporate Manager of Welding, Bechtel Construction Operations, Inc. (BCOI). #LI-BH1
Major Responsibilities:
  • Assists managing the Welding and Applied Technology Center including operations and leading internal / external design of experiments development and physical testing/mock-up programs.
  • Supports the Corporate Welding & NDE Program and the Manager of Welding & NDE Services by assisting customer business development, leading and organizing WATC tours and events, estimating costs for WATC development projects, programming project welding activities, and providing rapid solutions to project teams troubleshooting complex welding issues.
  • Identifies new welding equipment, welding technologies, consumables and methods of construction which provide competitive advantage to Bechtel and differentiate us from our competitors.
  • Leads welding research and development initiatives to apply emerging innovative technology solutions for projects and establish Bechtel as the global EPC welding leader in materials, welding, and adaptive field welding solutions.
  • Champion welding initiatives that affect the organization's long term strategic goals and objectives.
  • Prepare technical presentations for management, welding engineers, customers, and external educational seminars.
  • Contribute to industry advisory committees, codes of construction, design handbooks and peer-reviewed journals.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Graduate degree in Welding Engineering or Materials Science Engineering; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience executing global EPC construction projects and deep knowledge of welding process, applications, and field welding solutions.
  • Experience managing technology programs, strategic initiatives, and diverse teams.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to develop clear technical responses for audiences at multiple organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience with ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, with emphasis on steels, stainless steels, and nickel-based materials.
