Job Overview:
The Senior Director Project Controls executes Project Controls or Controls (ProjCtrl) strategy to achieve key business objectives. Their work is guided by company strategy and Project Controls business objectives and directly impacts business results. The Senior Director Project Control evaluates key business challenges and directs the development of new and innovative solutions. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the Project Controls business, and commercial expertise to differentiate McDermott from the competition.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Support and help achieve the overall business plan
  • Provide support for all members of the project controls leadership team
  • Drive values and vision for all project control teams
  • Instill, demonstrate, and promote a "safety as a value" culture
  • Participate in the development of the execution strategy for projects to improve operational effectiveness and project profitability
  • Support the sales group as the project controls executive representative to clients
  • Provide functional leadership to project controls staff assigned to areas and project teams and manage group budget
  • Attend key client meetings such as kick-off meetings, major alignment meetings, client relationship functions, etc.
  • Provide sponsorship for projects that will; provide a communication link between management and the client's project controls leadership
  • Strengthen and safeguard interests and long-term relationships with our clients
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the company projects
  • Assist the project teams in problem-solving at the project level
  • Actively participate in project estimates, estimate reviews, project execution approaches, proposal write-ups, and contract T&Cs during pre-contract
  • In conjunction with project management and local resource managers, appropriately staff projects with project control resources in a timely and effective manner
  • Direct responsibility and administrative head for all Project controls employees assigned to projects
  • Work with Project management to set goals and objectives for Project Controls Managers and the Project controls team on each project
  • Accountable for ensuring that project controls standards and best practices are maintained and implemented on projects
  • Provide input and guidance for the development of the project control project execution plans
  • Confirm that each project team has established the proper project controls tools to execute and manage the project from a cost, schedule, and progress perspective
  • Assure that the change management, risk management, and contingency management processes are established and functioning on each project
  • Confirm that trending and forecasting processes are established on each project
  • Assist project teams with the execution of project control functions on the project
  • Participate in project monthly forecast meetings to support the effort to determine the forecast at completion as early as possible in the project
  • Actively participate in project review meetings
  • Monitor and analyze project cost and schedule performance, and recommend corrective actions to the project management team to improve project performance
  • Monitor project financial performance: make appropriate recommendations to the project teams or project management for corrective actions as required
  • Conduct analysis and present consolidated project control information at the area level, reporting trends and issues
  • Maintain oversight of project closeout reports and analysis and work with estimating and sales to ensure that cost and productivity factors are recognized for use in future bids
  • Actively participate in the lessons-learned process
  • Take the lead to assure project controls are functional and process training is delivered to project teams
  • Take the lead in providing business unit suggestions for improvement of the project controls tools, processes, and procedures to better execute projects
  • Be the project controls team coach
  • Provide the leadership in developing project controls for employees while assigned to projects
  • Help develop functional and management skills for all project controls employees to support career development
  • Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
  • Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
  • Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant experience
  • Over 20 years within the energy industry through all phases of EPC project delivery
  • Large or mega project experience in a minimum of one of the following sectors: oil, gas, LNG, power
  • experience in managing a project controls team in a lump-sum project environment
  • experience in managing a project controls team relating to cost, scheduling, and progress in a project environment
  • Experience across all phases of a project engineering, procurement, and construction
  • Experience in contracts and contract administration including its assessment and implementation at each phase of the project
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally on frequent, short-duration assignments
  • Strong technical knowledge of the construction work involved, including the ability to use cost, and estimating tools/methods/systems
  • In-depth knowledge of critical path method (CPM) scheduling techniques and associated software
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Applications
