Summary

Spire is seeking a Technician I, Field Operations to work on the Omega pipeline system located at the Fort Leonard Wood Army Base. This position will be responsible for performing operations and maintenance (O&M) tasks on natural gas distribution facilities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of natural gas in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and company O&M procedures.  Spire will provide the employee with the training and equipment (including a company vehicle) required to perform the duties and responsibilities described below.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist crews with programing, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting gas measurement and regulating equipment including meters, control valves, relief valves, regulators and associated software, as well as monitoring gas and quality control equipment.
  • Assist crews with monitoring and responding to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Assist crews with Propane-Air Plant operations.
  • Maintain pipeline markers and manage pipeline marker inventory.
  • Maintain and repair pipeline test stations.
  • Perform cathodic protection and test station reads.
  • Perform leak surveys and right-of-way patrols.
  • Perform all emergent and non-emergent locate requests at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
  • Coordinate with contractors and oversee all work performed on or near the pipeline facilities.
  • Document company and contractor field work with photographs and inspection reports.
  • Evaluate and document condition of external pipeline coating.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and/or data entry, via computer, for Payroll, Engineering, Compliance, Claims, Safety and others.
  • Maintain Operator Qualifications related to job duties.
  • Be available for weekend and after hour responsibilities as required by work being performed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Essential Characteristics
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required.
  • Missouri Class E Chauffer's license or equivalent, required.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
  • 0-4 years of experience in the installation, replacement and/or maintenance of various sizes of steel and plastic pipe with a preference for experience pertaining to natural gas pipelines.
  • Candidate must be able to successfully pass a government background check required to obtain access to Fort Leonard Wood Army base.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work in a group setting as a team.
  • Must be able to respond to abnormal operating conditions and emergent one calls within two hours from home.
Physical demands, environment and schedule
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. overhead.
  • Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain.
  • A mix of normal office conditions and outdoors in all weather conditions and in areas exposed to loud audible noises.
  • Abnormal working hours required as dictated by contractor work.
  • One week of on call required every two to four weeks.
  • Travels to all areas of the pipeline right-of-way.
  • Available for 12-hour shift work (days and nights) during propane-air plant operations (1-2 times a year, 3-4 days each).
