EBRSO Job Description:

Position title: Computer Specialist

Division: Public Safety Technology Division - Computer Operations

Shift: 8 hours M-F; Overtime – Occasionally; On-call once every 6 weeks; required to work during emergencies and natural disasters

Job Summary: The Public Safety Technology Division is a critical component of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, dedicated to enhancing the role of technology in modern law enforcement operations. The division ensures that deputies and personnel have access to reliable, innovative, and secure technology systems that support all aspects of public safety, including emergency response, field operations, and digital evidence management.

Support Specialists serve as frontline technical resources responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and support of mission-critical systems. This includes mobile data terminals (MDTs), network connectivity, and investigative data systems that are essential to active patrol operations, crime prevention, and criminal investigations. These positions play a key role in ensuring uninterrupted access to technology that enables deputies to perform their duties safely and effectively in the field.

Job Duties:

  • Installs, configures, and maintains mobile data terminals, software, and peripheral devices
  • Maintains, and troubleshoots problems with in-car camera systems and mobile broadband
  • Manage and maintains Criminal Databases/Systems used in the prevention or investigation of crimes.
  • Responds to help desk tickets, phone calls, and walk-in requests for technical support
  • Participates in incident response and service restoration efforts
  • Troubleshoots system, network, and application issues and escalates complex problems as needed
  • Performs routine system maintenance, updates, and patches
  • Documents incidents, resolutions, and procedures in the ticketing system
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies. Insuring all computer assets are properly
  • asset tagged for compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree or associates degree in a Computer/Information Technology

related field plus one year of professional level experience in information technology; or 3 years of experience and/or training in information technology/computer networking

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SQL and/or SharePoint
  • Knowledge of various Windows operating systems. Knowledge of Mac OS a plus.
  • Ability to resolve issues with both Android and iOS mobile operating systems.
  • Must be a self-starter, organized, detailed oriented, and able to complete task

independently with little guidance.

  • Must be able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently. Must have the ability to manage several projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to respond to callouts for routine as well as emergency situations and
  • natural disasters.
  • Must be able to lift equipment and supplies up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder up to 12 feet. Must be capable of working on the ground, in ceiling, vehicles, or non-office space locations in odd positions to install/troubleshoot cabling or equipment.

Illegal marijuana use in the last 12 months or use of other illegal drugs in the last 24 months will disqualify an applicant from employment.
