Machine Shop General Laborer
Position Title: Machine Shop General Laborer
Hours: 1st Shift (6:00A - 4:30P Monday - Thursday); some overtime required
Reports To: Machining Manager
Location: Norwich, KS
Compensation: $18/hour
Position Summary
Farrar Corporation is seeking a dependable and motivated Machine Shop General Laborer to support daily production operations. This position assists with a variety of manufacturing processes including material preparation, machine operation, part finishing, painting, and general shop support. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and willing to learn multiple aspects of machine shop operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform drill press operations including drilling, tapping, reaming, and deburring parts.
  • Assist with gear cutting and gear finishing operations.
  • Prepare parts for painting, including cleaning, masking, hanging, and packaging.
  • Paint manufactured components according to work instructions and quality standards.
  • Grind, sand, and finish parts to meet customer specifications.
  • Load and unload materials and components from machines.
  • Perform basic machine tending duties for various production equipment.
  • Read and follow work instructions, production travelers, and safety procedures.
  • Inspect parts for obvious defects and notify supervisors of quality concerns.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and following safety requirements.
  • Assist machinists, setup personnel, and supervisors with production activities as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and cross-train in multiple shop functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous manufacturing, machine shop, construction, farming, maintenance, or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machining operations.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
  • Strong attendance record and dependable work ethic.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work safely around machinery, moving equipment, noise, and industrial materials.

Training
Employees in this position will receive training in:
