Description
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
The Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the sales team and the customer by providing technical support and resolution of technical issues to maximize design win success. Including performing product evaluation, and product support, providing market feedback, communicating with product divisions for design improvements, and participating in internal engineering meetings. In addition, responsible for the implementation and analysis of technical products and systems.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Business Development - In conjunction with the Account Managers, efforts to identify and penetrate new accounts in target markets, qualify new accounts and opportunities, and secure new business.
    • Work with the sales team on customer qualification and product design.
    • Develop and deliver product/technology proposals presentations to customer
  • Customer Visits - Conduct regular customer visits independently and/or jointly with Account Managers. Lead interactive customer engineering discussions to identify needs and provide solutions.
  • Customer Engagement & Relationship Building - Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers. Act as a trusted technical advisor to support long-term business growth.
  • Design Recommendations - Understand customer application, define customer technical requirements, identify potential MinebeaMitsumi technologies and products, and review trade-offs to propose the best possible solution.
    • Ensure that customer specifications are deployed to MinebeaMitsumi development centers.
  • Product Development - Lead the development of custom product solutions and coordinated technical activities between customer engineering and international MinebeaMitsumi engineering groups.
    • Track customer schedules and set realistic expectations for MinebeaMitsumi deliverables.
    • Ensure successful development through final approval and transition into production.
    • Provide technical support to identify new applications and coordinate with appropriate program management, factory, marketing, and sales staff on the development of customer applications.

    • Product Documentation - Issue product documentation (technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, catalogs) as required.
    • Sample Evaluation - Manage sample development and evaluation cycle.
      • Ensure that samples meeting customer requirements are delivered on time, collect results from customer evaluation in a timely manner, and feedback to MinebeaMitsumi product and sales teams.
      • Coordinate failure analysis investigation of samples and implement design improvements as necessary.
    • Design Failure Analysis & Reporting - Conduct failure analysis investigation of customer products as part of the design process and report to the customer as required.
    • Reporting Communications Internal/External - Provide timely and frequent written and verbal reporting on customer interaction and development status for opportunities
    • Technical Research & Reporting - Gather information on customer technical roadmaps and general industry technical trends, consolidate and analyze information, and report summary information and recommendations to product management on a timely and regular basis.
    • Monthly Reporting - Prepare and submit a monthly summary activity report to the supervisor.
    • Travel - Travel required up to 25% - 50%; the majority will be domestic, with some international.
    • Product Ordering & Coordination - Coordinate sample ordering, delivery, and follow-up with customers for product approval
    • Other - Perform other duties as related to the job function, as required.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
  • Master's Degree a plus
  • 3 Years plus experience as a design engineer or application engineer
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the specified industry or industries and/or working with the specified product(s)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point) required:
    • Basic 3D modeling (especially CATIA, NX) is preferred.
    • AutoCad or ProE a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills:
    • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating complex technical information to both external customers and internal team members required.
  • Working knowledge and experience in an organization with ISO/TS 16949 certification, DFMEA, APQP, and other AIAG core tools.
  • Proven ability to maintain close working relationships with overseas engineers and avoid/overcome roadblocks to the development of the product, highly required.
  • Business-level speaking is a plus in one of the following languages depending on business needs:
    • Japanese
    • Spanish
  • Fluency in reading and writing is a plus in one of the following languages depending on business needs:
    • Japanese
    • Spanish

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
No Supervisory qualifications are required for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office, and ability to conduct a normal amount of work on a computer.
SALARY
At NMB, the pay band for this role is between $78,178.00 and $117,267.00 annually, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The base pay is a part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range of the pay band process.
