Job description

HOURS:
Full-time, Days and hours vary. Weekend work required.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Directs and coordinates activities of kitchen workers and the preparing and cooking of foods for the hospital patients, personnel, and visitors during his/her designated shift.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises personnel when preparing patient trays.
• Supervises dish room procedures ensuring that proper techniques are utilized and that established procedures and standards are maintained.
• Maintains quality control measures to ensure temperature, attractiveness, and palatability of food.
• Ensures food is prepared, cooked, and portion size is per established policies and procedures.
• Ensures cleaning and sanitation requirements are maintained at all times including the terminal cleaning of the kitchen and dining area.
• Inventories all paper products, staples, supplies on a weekly basis during the morning shift.
• Inventories patient care units' kitchens and supplies them with items, i.e. milk, juices, cookies, tea on the afternoon shift.
• Provides orientation and in-services for employees.
• Performs any or all of the duties in the kitchen, tray line, cafeteria, and dish rooms as required due to staffing. Knowledgeable of responsibilities for each shift.
• Ensures infection control practices are always maintained.
• Maintains temperature logs for food, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Ensures all food, supplies, etc. are received and stored according to procedure.
• Cooperative and working relationship with co-workers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Receives required educational units.
EXPERIENCE:
• Two (2) years hospital or food service experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
