Data Center Multi Skilled Operator II - HVAC & Mechanical Specialist

We are seeking a hands-on Multi-Skilled Operator II – HVAC & Mechanical Specialist to support data center facility operations in Lenoir, NC. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and control systems critical to reliable facility performance.

This is a multi-skilled position requiring a technician who is comfortable working in all aspects of mechanical and HVAC maintenance, including RTUs, package units, cooling towers, refrigeration systems, plumbing, piping, electrical components, and control systems. The ideal candidate is not afraid to get their hands dirty and takes ownership of maintaining safe and reliable facility operations.

Location: On Site in Lenoir, NC

Hours: This position follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, consisting of 4 days on and 3 days off, with both day and night shifts required. Flexibility is essential based on client needs and may include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

HVAC System Oversight and Leadership:

  • Conduct daily HVAC-related maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to schedules, safety, and quality standards.
  • Monitor HVAC performance and coordinate troubleshooting efforts with client and fellow team members to resolve complex issues.
  • Coordinate seasonal HVAC operations such as winterization and peak cooling preparations.
  • Ensure system efficiency through performance testing and routine system evaluations.

Computer and Reporting Skills:

  • Utilize computer-based systems(Maximo, CMMS, Microsoft Office, etc.) to manage work orders, preventive maintenance logs, and HVAC performance data.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of HVAC operations, asset history, and inventory.
  • Create and submit daily progress reports to client facilities engineers

Emergency HVAC Support and On-Call Duties:

  • Serve as a point of escalation for HVAC issues arising, during your shift.
  • Coordinate emergency response actions and communicate status updates in real-time with site management.
  • Ensure readiness for on-call rotations and critical facility scenarios.

General Facility Maintenance Support:

  • Perform and oversee minor low-voltage electrical and plumbing work related to HVAC systems.
  • Conduct facility walkthroughs, ensuring the workspace is clean, organized, and safe.
  • Support broader site maintenance projects as needed, collaborating across trades.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in HVAC maintenance. Experience in data centers or critical infrastructure preferred.
  • HVAC Certification: Valid HVAC licensure or certification is required. Additional electrical, plumbing, or mechanical certifications are a plus.
  • EPA 608 is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Journeyman-level knowledge in HVAC diagnostics, repair, and preventive care with attention to energy efficiency.
  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills to engage with clients, vendors, and leadership effectively.
  • Computer Skills: Basic knowledge in using CMMS platforms, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to interpret digital HVAC system controls and reports.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong ability to assess and resolve complex HVAC and facility issues quickly.
  • Safety-Oriented: Deep understanding of OSHA standards and commitment to safety in all operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required
  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure
The base pay range for this role is $34.00 - $36.00 per hour. This range reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long-term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by job‑related factors consistent with applicable law.
