Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.

The Team

The Content and Business Product Engineering team builds the technology that powers Netflix's content lifecycle from concept to streaming. We create the platforms, systems, and services that enable teams around the world to plan, produce, distribute, and promote the stories our members love.

Content Infrastructure & Solutions (CIS) accelerates content and studio innovation by providing the foundational platforms and services that support Netflix's global content ecosystem. We deliver secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure that powers large-scale media, asset, data, access, workflow, and communication needs across content production and distribution.

Content Foundations Engineering (CFE), a key organization within CIS, builds the core data and access management platforms that underpin Netflix's content business. Our team develops both end-user applications and platforms that enable trusted data, efficient workflows, and seamless collaboration across the content lifecycle.

As Netflix expands into games, advertising, live events, sports, and new forms of entertainment, the complexity and scale of our content ecosystem continue to grow. To meet this challenge, we are reimagining how data is managed across a highly distributed landscape of products, services, and business domains. Our vision is to build a unified data management platform that connects disparate data sources, establishes trusted relationships between critical business entities, and provides intelligent automation and governance capabilities that empower teams to manage and evolve the data that drives Netflix's content operations.

Data is one of Netflix's most strategic assets and increasingly the foundation for AI-powered innovation. As part of Content Data Foundations, we are looking for a product-minded, forward-thinking engineering leader to help define the next generation of data platforms that will power decision-making, automation, and innovation across the content ecosystem.

What you will do:

You will lead a team of software engineers to deliver high-impact results. Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Partner with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to define and execute the vision and strategy, while driving adoption of the platforms built across Content and Studio Engineering.

  • Foster a strong accountability culture in the team and help the team deliver the results reliably and in a timely manner to support the needs of critical business stakeholders.

  • Act as a credible technical advisor to the team on data modeling, graph technologies, and distributed data architecture problems; help the team make thoughtful, informed decisions in ambiguous situations

  • Form trust cross-functional relationships with partners and stakeholders within Netflix, connect the dots and drive adoption to maximize the business impact, ensure our solutions meet their needs, and selflessly prioritize work beyond the scope of your own domain.

  • Effectively communicate complex ideas and influence decisions across a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Balance business needs with strong engineering principles, ensure investment in foundational technical work, pay off tech debts, and make incremental improvements to deliver timely results.

  • Lead, coach, hire, and develop a team of outstanding engineers, challenge them to bring their best selves to their daily work, and deliver exceptional results in stability, performance, efficiency as well as developer experience.

  • Build and nurture an inclusive team culture where every member feels empowered, accepted, and respected.

What we are looking for:

  • At least 3 years of experience in building and managing distributed, high-performing teams with a focus on inclusion and diversity. Ability to attract and retain the best talent, and ensure that all voices are heard to inform our decisions while fostering a strong culture of accountability, where individuals take ownership of their responsibilities and contribute to the team's collective success.

  • Ability to foster a team culture of open and direct communications, where team members feel empowered to offer constructive and positive feedback and acknowledge achievements and areas for improvement.

  • Experience building and operating extremely reliable products and services used in enterprise settings supporting critical use cases, including running 24x7 on-call.

  • Long-term strategic thinker with a strong platform mindset. Ability to define and articulate product vision and strategy and how they fit into the broader objectives of the organization.

  • Ability to prioritize strategically and align the team's work with larger business goals. Have the courage to pivot based on broader impacts.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with cross-functional partners and stakeholders with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Capable of influencing the strategic direction of partners and stakeholders.

  • Proven track record helping a team deliver timely results on critical priorities against many demands for their time, and partnering with product and engineering management to influence the right areas for investment

  • Bring rigor to decision-making and drive down ambiguity with the right mix of collecting data, seeking input, farming for dissent, and making pilot investments to build understanding or confirm direction.

  • Experience driving teams to adopt specific KPIs/leading indicators of system health, observing and tuning the systems to prevent predictable outages.

  • Strong communication skills - with the team, stakeholders, partners, and leadership, particularly across global borders

Nice to have:

  • Experience building enterprise software and distributed systems

  • Experience leading engineering teams with both UI/UX and Backend engineers

  • Experience working with graph-based data modeling, knowledge graphs, RDF, ontologies, or related semantic technologies
