Job description

The Senior Computer Operator (IT Asset Management Lead) is a highly experienced subject matter expert responsible for the governance and operational management of the organization's entire IT Asset Management (ITAM) program. This role leads the lifecycle management strategy for all hardware and software assets, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the asset portfolio. The Senior Operator is responsible for developing and refining ITAM processes, administering the asset management system, and providing actionable business intelligence to leadership through data analysis and reporting. They serve as the lead for all audit activities and provide mentorship and guidance to junior asset management personnel.
Typical Task List:
ITAM Program and Process Management:
Develop, document, and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all ITAM lifecycle processes, including receiving, tagging, deployment, tracking, and disposal.
Serve as the primary administrator for the enterprise ITAM tool/database (e.g., ELMS/DPAS, ServiceNow, Flexera), responsible for its configuration, health, and data integrity.
Lead the training and mentorship of junior asset management personnel, ensuring all procedures are followed correctly.
Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in asset tracking.
Data Analysis and Strategic Reporting:
Develop and generate complex reports and dashboards to provide insights into asset utilization, financial data, and lifecycle status.
Analyze asset data to identify trends, forecast future needs, and support budget planning for hardware technology refreshes.
Provide data and analysis to support decision-making regarding asset procurement and retirement strategies.
Software Asset Management (SAM) and Compliance:
Lead software license compliance efforts by conducting regular reconciliations of installed software against purchase records and entitlements.
Manage the software license reclamation ("harvesting") process to re-allocate unused licenses and optimize software spending.
Conduct internal software audits to identify and report on unauthorized installations.
Audit and Compliance Leadership:
Lead and coordinate all physical inventory audits, developing the audit plan and overseeing its execution.
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors regarding IT asset inquiries.
Ensure all asset disposal processes are followed and properly documented to meet security and environmental regulations.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an IT operations role.
At least four (4) years of this experience must be dedicated to IT Asset Management (ITAM), including both hardware and software asset management.
Proven experience leading IT asset audits and experience with process documentation is required.
Certifications (Baseline):
Must possess a current CompTIA Security+ CE certification (or higher) to meet DoD 8140 requirements for IAT Level II.
Security Clearance:
Must be able to acquire and maintain a DoW Security Clearance
Technical Skills:
Expert-level proficiency with enterprise-class ITAM and ITSM tools (e.g., ELMS/DPAS, ServiceNow, Flexera, Ivanti), including reporting and administrative functions.
In-depth knowledge of IT asset lifecycle management principles and best practices.
Strong understanding of software licensing models (e.g., perpetual, subscription, enterprise agreements).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Strong leadership and communication skills with experience training junior personnel.
