Summary
The Transmission Engineering CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Manager is responsible for leading a team of CAD drafters that produce accurate and safe line and substation engineering drawings and documentation, manages CAD procedures and processes, and also provides CAD software support and training.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Directly or through others, the incumbent:
  • Partners with other internal stakeholders to manage software vendor relationships, including contracts, performance, support, and updates.
  • Builds a trained staff of CAD drafters, and other support personnel, to meet the design needs of the business unit and partners. This includes executing a hiring strategy, assignment of design work, and ensuring documented training plans are in place for drafter development.
  • Completes CAD designs of transmission line and substation projects based on Engineer design specifications. Performs reviews of the team deliverables to ensure accurate work product.
  • Creates, maintains, and enforces CAD standards for both internal and external users on Company projects. Performs necessary design audits to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Partners with business stakeholders to define CAD vision and strategy.
  • Remains aware of emerging CAD trends and technologies and provides recommendations of potential accuracy and efficiency improvements.
  • Provides training and technical support for users of the CAD software.
  • Perform all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of Associates Degree in drafting, engineering technology, or equivalent field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of CAD drafting experience is required.
  • Previous experience creating, managing, and enforcing CAD design standards is required.
  • Candidates with previous experience as a design team lead are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates with previous drafting experience related to transmission line and substation design are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates with 3D/BIM design experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams, and experience managing large programs or initiatives is required.
