Job description

Manager, Commercial Operations & Planning / Children’s Wear | New York

Build the infrastructure. Shape the growth. Own a piece of what comes next.

This Children's wear company has been building its business for more than 40 years. Family founded and run, it represents and distributes a portfolio of premium European children’s brands across North America, with relationships spanning approximately 350 specialty retailers. Now, the company is entering an exciting new chapter.

With new leadership and a renewed focus on expanding into department stores, major national retailers and high-volume/off-price channels, this company is poised for significant growth. We are looking for a commercially minded, analytical operator who wants to be part of that expansion—not simply manage an existing function, but help build it.

This is an opportunity for someone with a start-up mentality inside a 40-year-old company: a stable foundation, an established customer base and proven brands, combined with the freedom, access and entrepreneurial energy of a business entering its next phase.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Manager, Commercial Operations & Planning to become a key partner to ownership and leadership as C&C grows its wholesale business.

This is a highly visible, cross-functional role that sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, wholesale planning, financial analysis and operations.

You will help answer the critical questions behind every major opportunity: What is the opportunity? What will it take to execute? What will it cost? How much inventory and working capital will it require? And ultimately, how profitable is the business?

  • For example, if we are evaluating a 250,000-unit program with a major national retailer, you will help turn the opportunity into a clear commercial picture—analyzing units, revenue, pricing, landed cost, inventory requirements, working capital and true gross margin.
  • And once the business is won, you'll help make sure it gets executed from beginning to end.

From Opportunity to Execution

  • You will help connect the entire commercial lifecycle:
  • Customer PO → Vendor/Factory PO → Production → Freight → Import/Customs → Warehouse → Retailer Compliance/EDI → Delivery → Invoicing → Reconciliation
  • You will work across sales, purchasing, vendors, factories, logistics, inventory and finance to ensure that information is accurate, decisions are informed and the business stays on track.

What You'll Own

  • Analyze new wholesale and retail opportunities through units, revenue, inventory, landed cost, gross margin and working-capital requirements
  • Build commercial models and business cases that help leadership determine which opportunities make sense for C&C
  • Manage and organize the commercial pipeline, providing visibility into upcoming business and resource requirements
  • Partner with leadership on major retail opportunities, including department stores, national retailers and high-volume/off-price accounts
  • Track wholesale orders from customer PO through production, import, warehouse, delivery and invoicing
  • Coordinate information across vendors, factories, logistics partners, warehouse operations and internal teams
  • Identify operational bottlenecks, financial risks and process gaps before they become problems
  • Help strengthen reporting across sales, purchasing, inventory and financial information
  • Evaluate how our systems communicate today and help create a more integrated, reliable view of the business
  • Build processes and infrastructure that can scale as the company grows

Why This Role Is Different

  • This isn't a narrowly defined corporate job.
  • You won't be handed one small piece of the business and told to stay in your lane.
  • You'll have direct access to ownership and leadership, visibility into major business decisions and the opportunity to influence how C&C operates as it grows.
  • The person who succeeds here will be curious, resourceful and comfortable moving between a financial model, a customer opportunity, a factory issue and an inventory report—all in the same day.
  • You will have a seat at the table and the opportunity to help build the table.
  • As C&C expands into larger retail channels, the scope of this role can grow significantly. We are looking for someone ambitious enough to want that growth and capable enough to help create it.

The Ideal Candidate

We are targeting approximately 4–7 years of professional experience and are particularly interested in candidates who have developed a broad understanding of the business rather than working in a highly siloed corporate function.

Your background might include:

  • Wholesale planning or operations
  • Merchandise planning
  • Sales operations
  • Commercial/business analysis
  • Apparel or consumer-products importing
  • Wholesale distribution
  • Manufacturing or private label

Experience with national retailers—particularly Costco, TJX, Burlington, department stores or comparable high-volume accounts, is highly valued, however not required.

You don't need to have done every piece of this job before. More important is that you are analytical, commercially curious, operationally savvy and eager to take ownership.

You should be someone who looks at a process and thinks: “There has to be a better way.” And then figures out how to build it.

The Person We're Looking For

This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than another job title. You may be ready to move beyond a narrowly defined analyst or planner role and take on broader ownership.

You are:

  • Analytical without being buried in spreadsheets
  • Commercially minded and interested in how businesses actually make money
  • Comfortable working with numbers, inventory and margins
  • Curious about the entire supply chain
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally
  • A strong communicator who can translate data into business decisions
  • Entrepreneurial and willing to roll up your sleeves
  • Energized by building something rather than simply maintaining it

Why Join our company? It's the Right Moment

After four decades of building a respected business, we are entering our next chapter. The foundation is already here: established brands, customers, relationships and industry expertise. What's ahead is the opportunity to scale it.

This is the right role for someone who wants to join at the beginning of that next phase and have a meaningful hand in determining what our company becomes. Come help build the commercial engine behind the next 40 years.

Compensation: $95,000–$110,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonus.

NYC Hybrid 4-days in office, 1 WFH (Based on business and seasonal demands, there can be flexibility.)
