Job description

Your Work Matters

As Manager Category Analyst Ecommerce, you’ll help shape how customers discover, navigate, and shop Floor & Decor online. From search strategy and personalization to product launches and site optimization, your work directly influences visibility, engagement, conversion, and revenue across both our Pro and Consumer customer segments.

Your Day Consists Of

Category Strategy & Planning

  • Defining, owning, and evolving the long-term category vision across multiple eCommerce channels, integrating consumer, shopper, competitive, and macroeconomic trends into differentiated growth strategies.
  • Leading and overseeing annual category planning cycles across a complex portfolio, setting strategic priorities for assortment, promotion, placement, and investment across tier-1 digital platforms.
  • Conducting enterprise-level category assessments — including whitespace analysis, competitive benchmarking, and portfolio gap analysis — to identify, size, and sequence strategic growth opportunities.
  • Building and presenting executive-level investment cases and business reviews, influencing senior leadership and key retail partners around shared category priorities.
  • Designing and operationalizing a proactive category performance management system, converting KPI signals into forward-looking strategy adjustments and risk mitigation plans.
  • Serving as a thought leader on emerging eCommerce trends, translating market intelligence into first-mover strategic advantages for the category.

Assortment & Portfolio Optimization

  • Leading strategic assortment decisions across a complex portfolio — including new item launches, SKU rationalization, portfolio architecture, and end-of-life planning — with a rigorous focus on long-term category health, profitability, and shopper relevance.
  • Partnering with Merchandising, Brand, and Innovation teams to build an integrated digital assortment strategy aligned to corporate growth objectives.
  • Defining and championing digital shelf standards and content excellence across the category, holding executional teams accountable to the strategic vision.
  • Identifying cross-category portfolio synergies and developing recommendations to optimize the total eCommerce portfolio mix.

Retailer & Partner Leadership

  • Leading category captain and joint business planning (JBP) engagements for top-tier retail accounts, delivering insight-led category strategies that grow the total category while advancing our position.
  • Building and sustaining senior consultative relationships with retail buyers, digital merchandising leads, and category leadership teams across multiple partners.
  • Influencing retailer decisions on online placement, search optimization, platform strategy, and co-investment through compelling, data-driven narratives.
  • Representing the organization in industry forums, retailer summits, and category leadership panels as a recognized subject matter expert.

Insights & Performance Management

  • Leveraging a full suite of syndicated and proprietary data tools to generate forward-looking strategic insights that shape investment, go-to-market, and portfolio decisions.
  • Designing and scaling reporting frameworks in partnership with analytics teams, ensuring outputs prioritize strategic interpretation over retrospective measurement.
  • Synthesizing complex, cross-channel data into clear, decisive executive recommendations that drive category investment priorities.
  • Leading the development of advanced analytical models (e.g., demand sensing, price elasticity, cannibalization modeling) to support strategic scenario planning.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Directly managing, coaching, and developing a team of category analysts — setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting career growth.
  • Leading and prioritizing team workload across cross-functional projects, acting as the category management center of excellence within the eCommerce organization.
  • Developing and standardizing best-in-class category management processes, frameworks, and tools that increase team efficiency and output quality.
  • Owning talent development and succession planning for the category analyst team, partnering with HR and senior leadership to shape the future capability roadmap.

You’ll Be Successful With

Required

  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in category management, eCommerce strategy, or a related function within CPG, retail, or a digital-first environment, including 2+ years in a people management or team lead capacity.

  • Demonstrated experience directly managing, developing, and evaluating a team of analysts, with a track record of building individual and team capabilities.

  • Expert-level proficiency in syndicated data platforms and eCommerce analytics tools.

  • Advanced skills in Excel/Google Sheets; strong proficiency with data visualization and BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker).

  • Deep knowledge of eCommerce fundamentals including SEO, digital shelf optimization, paid media strategy, fulfillment models (1P/3P/hybrid), and marketplace dynamics.

  • Proven ability to lead category captain and JBP engagements with major national or regional retail accounts, with a track record of winning and retaining category leadership status.

  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills — able to distill complex analysis into compelling strategic narratives for C-suite and senior retail audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.

Preferred

  • Experience setting team goals, conducting performance reviews, and managing career development for direct reports.

  • Exposure to advanced analytics, predictive modeling, or data science applications in a commercial or category context.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, Economics, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.

  • Experience working across multiple retail banners and digital platforms simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with agile ways of working and digital product/platform environments.

Work Environment / Physical Expectations

• Primarily a sedentary role with extended periods of sitting, though occasional walking, standing, or light physical activity (lifting up to 20 lbs) may be needed.

• Work is typically performed in a quiet to moderate office setting, with occasional exposure to active warehouse environments and moving equipment.
