Job Title: Museum Store Sales Analyst Intern

Reports to: Senior Store Manager / Book Buyer
Location: Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
The Museum Store Sales Analyst Internship offers students an opportunity to gain handsโ€‘on experience in retail analytics, category performance evaluation, and product research within a museum retail environment. The intern will focus heavily on analyzing the Museum Storeโ€™s extensive Bible assortment and understanding how product features, pricing, and industry trends influence sales, turns, and overall category productivity. This internship provides valuable exposure to museum retail operations, data analysis, and merchandising strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Analyzing Bible formats including pocket, compact, comfort print, thinline, study, chronological, journaling, jumbo/large print, and specialty editions
  • Reviewing physical features such as color, size, binding, typography, cover materials, and functional design
  • Evaluating price points and identifying value tiers within the Bible assortment
  • Researching Bible publishing industry trends and comparing them to Museum Store performance
  • Analyzing SKU productivity including sellโ€‘through, turns, margins, and category contribution
  • Reviewing how individual Bible SKUs impact the sales or turns of other Bibles (complementary vs. cannibalization effects)
  • Calculating retail performance metrics such as dollars per square foot and category productivity
  • Creating weekly or monthly reports summarizing insights for the Senior Store Manager / Book Buyer
  • Assisting with periodic inventory checks and shelf evaluations
Education:
  • Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Business, Retail Management, Data Analytics, Biblical Studies, Museum Studies, Marketing, Economics, or related field.
Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate from a college or university
  • Must be highly sensitive to confidentiality, especially regarding sales data
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects independently and follow assignments through to completion
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, POS reports, and product data
  • Interest in Bible publishing, specialty retail, analytics, or museum store operations preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects (up to 30 lbs)
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and perform light physical activity during merchandising or inventory tasks
